What is it about football that attracts the yobs??
What has changed over the years??
The Greeks and Persians probably invented the principle of gladiatorial sport.
Instead of opposing armies bashing seven shades of ****e out of each other, a champion from each side was selected to fight for his side and everyone else settled for whichever champion won and buggered off home.
The Romans improved on the principle and created arenas where trained gladiators fought in front of the spectators who lay around getting fat on loads of nosh, openly bonking any female who took there fancy or in many cases young boys, while they watched the poor contestants hack each other to death.
So in our civilised society we have taken the gladiator principle into a modern era where we select our contestants to play against opponents while we are supposed to sit/stand, have a drink and watch and enjoy the spectacle. In ALL other sports the spectators go home after an entertaining hour or so and intermingle with the oppositionâs spectators and probably chat about the ins and outs of what they have just seen.
Andy Murray didnât play too well yesterday, but I didnât spot any Scots or Swiss folk storming on to the court to have fisticuffs. It just doesnât happen in tennis, rugby hockeyâ¦â¦â¦â¦
So what is about football that attracts the twat followers/not supporters who prove they canât hold their booze and act in such a totally unacceptable way.
Iâm a fair bit older than most on these boards and I used to go to football where there was no segregation and everyone got on fine with each other. At Eastville you could change ends at half time so the support was completely integrated. I canât remember that away supporters were refused entry to any part of the ground at Eastville or Ashton Gate.
Just a thought, but there is one thing that may be coincidental with the change in crowd behaviour is the replica shirts. Years ago only scarves, hats and coloured rattles were marks of team preference. I just wonder if shirt wearing has given some of the morons the right to feel that they can invade the pitch and that they must join in the fight for their team by attacking the opposing shirts.. They are probably thick enough to believe that!!!
Nobody wants this small minority, but how do you get rid of them!!!!
I once went to an American Football match in a massive stadium and someone who was misbehaving was grabbed by nearby supporters and handed down over many, many heads to the security guards, to everyoneâs great amusement.
Perhaps the football clubs should employ a group of heavies to select the ringleaders , drop a big net over them and manhandle them to the appropriate place.
