Well, our midfield triumvirate of Britton, Allen and Gower (who were once described by The Lone Rangel as 'hobbits') were truly outstanding today. When I got inside the stadium to find that the front 6 were the above three, Dyer, Sinclair and Lita - none of them taller than about 5'7" - I did have my doubts about this game, but not to be. Leon was doing what he does best, snapping away and making himself available for the short pass and deservedly got the MOTM award I think). Mark Gower hardly put a foot wrong - I know he's not everyone's first choice - but maybe it's the fact he's played in every division and finally getting his chance in the Premier League at the age of 32 or whatever. Really pleased for him and almost scored with a fierce shot from outside the area that was deflected just wide with their keeper going the wrong way. Joey Allen was making some great plays around the edge of their area. Great game, great result, great atmosphere, great goals - and Michel Vorm - what a keeper you are! PS: Where was Danny Graham?
Leroy Lita scored with a header and he's only 5'9" :L Graham had a back injury and wasn't fit enough to play, he'll have a tough job to get that starting place off Lita now!
Yea well done midfield! Leon Britton I think is my Player of the season so far. Danny Graham is injured...missed training earlier in the week
Yeah Graham missed training with an ankle knock, then hurt his back so missed the game. Lita may only be 5'9 but he's got springs in his heels and energy enough to outbounce Tigger himself! Vorm is also made out of elastic it seems, and again I'm delighted with his performance. The whole team done well and showed that teamwork and passion are more important than size and strength.
When you play a TEAM game , it matters less which division you play in or the players you play with , we have & are proving that . The team fielded today is not a great deal different that the team we won League 1 with . Win or lose our next game , we're undefeated at home & will have played Man City , Arsenal & Chelsea away our first 3 traveling games . Superb start !!! P.S. Glad to see Gower hold his own today & will surely get penciled in for a bit given the circumstances
Not only are we unbeaten at home but we havent conceded a goal at home either. The statisticians were on about goals scored but no ones mentioned that. The earliest it could happen now is Stoke in October ! Fortress Liberty is still unbreached and going strong . In fact in 10 halves of football this season we've kept clean sheets in 8 of them. Arsenal had a fluke and Man City have got more cash than Bill Gates so we can forgive the team that one. So to all you pundits/statto's out there stick it where the sun doesn't shine, keep the faith cos we are going to be allright.
