The National - a paper from the United Arab Emirates did a write up on Nigel/Saints ahead of this opening weekend of the Premier League season: http://www.thenational.ae/sport/football/the-hardest-job-is-done-for-southampton-manager DTLW
Never realised about his wife, I had always wondered what was behind the move from manager to physio.
That was a decent bit of journalism. Quite informative. Pieces like this give me more confidence we have the right man for the job.
I have never been less than confident we have the right man for the job. Our situation at the moment is going to be very inteesting and as they say a steep learning curve as although the club may have been in the PL before we have a novice chairman and manager plus the majority of our players for whom this is a very new experience. Nigel will be doing a lot of reflecting and redefining of his ideas this season and Nicola will have to be brave enough to support him all along the way. We are still two or three players away from being a reasonable PL side and once we have them in place I am sure that we will more than hold our own this coming season.
Toitally agree Godders. I am getting twitchy about the lack of CB cover. An injury early to Jos or Jose and I think the word is buggered!
Very good article containing things new to us. Like BassettSaint, I had wondered about his move to physiotherapy. Love the fact that he has team lists from youth football with his comments on team and result....an embryo manager. Obviously a man too intelligent to just play...he needed more mental stimulation. Difficulties in life and overcoming them have made Adkins what he is today. The end of the article was disappointing because it finished too quickly...went straight from Adkin's positivity to saying and that's why we are favourites for relegation. Obviously something had been taken out there and the edges not smoothed sufficiently...but that's the writer side of me criticising. A good article and thanks for finding it.
........and we all know that to do that does not take a great deal of effort. We have some of the laziest journalists and pundits imaginable talking about football. 12 months ago I said that MotD needed a major revamp and nothing happened so I will repeat it and say that after some of the superb reporting on the Olympics if the BBC dish out the same old crappy MotD then they have lost the plot and are going backwards.
