Unless you are birthing nerds, how do you approach the whole "handball depends on whether you stretch beyond your natural silhouette" conversation with a son/daughter/hybrid? If your son/daughter/hybrid does actually understand whatever the hell Fifa are talking about, it's safe to say your kid is not becoming a footballer anyway... My proposal would be to say that any time the ball touches a hand, it is a handball, however it is only a penalty where; A) the handball completely obviously stops a goal being scored (e.g a handball on the line, even by accident) B) the handball is obviously deliberate (e.g Suarez vs Ghana) C) It happens in the penalty area (added for pedants). In all other circumstances where the ball hits the hand in the box, it is an indirect free-kick. This is to stop the issues where a defender clearly handles it, however it was not deliberate and therefore it's not a foul despite the ball being blocked from where it might have gone, which nearly always is to the defending team's benefit. The attackers then retain possession in a dangerous area. Thanks for reading, thoughts? #YAJERK
