Got up this morning and set up the BBC Bristol site on my computer and went and had breakfast whilst watching the Chelsea/Arsenal match (if you can call it that) and returned to the computer room to find out that City were 1-0 ahead. Not such a bad start to the day I told myself, and returned to the telly, and later went back to check on City, 2-0 ahead at this stage, and became somewhat smug telling myself that 3 points were in the bag. Surprise, the real City showed up when I went back, in my smugness, to check the final score and was somewhat bemused that we had done it yet again. So when did the green eyed monster show up? Later I decided to watch a real game and switched to my recording of Cardiff/Liverpool and found him sitting beside me saying "don't you wish it was Bristol City?" and that's when our fall from grace really hit home. All the excuses etc cannot convince me that we shouldn't be capable of being in the same position as Cardiff, or Swansea for that matter, and yet here we are condemned to play the likes of the minnows amongst whom we now swim for survival. Watching the game at their new stadium made me realise, based on my age, the likelihood of me ever watching my team play in a match of that calibre is fast disappearing off my radar, and it was a terrible wake up call to the realities facing Bristol City. Despite everything I still remain upbeat and won't let it get me down but, sadly, I wonder how long it will take for the youngsters amongst you to ever have the chance to go and see the likes of Liverpool at our brand new 30,000 seat stadium? Good luck in your dreams lads. Don't worry about me I'll be O.K. (lol).
You sound like my alter ego Mike. Approx same age, same team, same non achieving history and same sad future. COYREDS!
Mike - I'ts been painfull sometimes this season, but yesterday was a treat despite the scoreline. Liverpool are easily the most frightening team going forward that I've witnessed at the CCS. It's another world up here and wouldn't have missed it despite the frequent gulf in class between my side and the opposition. Most expect us to come straight back down now, and that's a fair appraisal when you look at the table, but if we do, it was a blast anyway. You never know though - OGS seems to have got a grip at last on how to use what he's got available to him, but it might all be too late. Another season in the Championship won't be the end of the world for me - a lot more competitve throughout the division than facing the "aristocracy" up here. It's a funny old thing though pal - the Championship is where you want to be next season, and we don't.
I work with a few Cardiff fans, and they say similar things to you Old Sparky. But they have all said it's been good but prefer the competitness of the championship.
Wouldn't want to be Cardiff. They are going down, they sold their soul for one season in the prem? yeah that's really worth it. Only now are they all finding their voice and are standing up to Tan.
I've heard of the Black and Tans but never the Blue and Tans or even the Red and Tans, now we've got the Franchise, Tans and relegation, what a future....
Not nice comebacks at all Mike - just exactly as you infer - green monster spot on. Shiny and wizey have always exhibited thus under the holier than thou halo. Such a shame that...... Be honest for once lads, you'd give your eye teeth for a pop at the Premier League - you just know you have no chance and can therefore afford to belittle the efforts of a club that has made it. Got bad losers written all over your posts and it doesn't do you any credit.
You're not far from the mark sparkey. Just watched another team that I admire and envy in Southampton, and if any of our supporters say they are happy seeing us play in a division where most teams struggle to pull in 5,000 for their home games then I would suggest they are lying. The city of Bristol should be better than that lousy aspiration, but it seems mediocrity is our sole target and the belief that anything better is way beyond our needs still prevails. That might rattle a few cages but let's be honest we support a team that just can't get it anywhere near right and that is so sad.
We've been in the top league of English football. Also stayed there longer than you did without as much money being spent and without changing our colours Back to the championship with a thump! Currently the laughing stock of the prem with mr chow
shiny - have good laugh mate, you deserve something to cheer yourself up after the **** you've been forced to watch............. I'd rather be the laughing stock of the Prem watching my side play some of the best teams in the world than the laughing stock of League One playing the likes of Crawley and Stevenage. Come to think of it, you still maybe the laughing stock of League Two next year yet mate.
Of course we are jealous of teams who until fairly recently we regarded as similar to us, who now play in the Premier League. I guess the questions are: 1. Are you happy with what Vincent Tan has done - e.g. playing in red 2. Are you happy with how he treats the fans 3, What happens financially if he gets bored with his toy and walks away
We can only dream of the prem,Cardiff did it end off. Yes we would love a season or two, in the prem, under our current set up no chance of that happening.
Cheer up mate, are you feeling blue? or should that be red? but yeah don't worry, im with everyone else laughing at your joke of a club
Let's forget all the negatives posted about them and admit we would love to be where they are regardless of colour changes, owners and all that other nonsense. Bristol deserves a quality football team and the reality of life is that we don't and won't for some time to come - end of!
You can't say "regardless of colour change" that's YOUR identity. They got rid of it for 1 season in the premier league, sorry but I and neither would any other sane person would want that for this club.
