Should make interesting viewing. I wonder what our younger contributors will make of him. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...day-to-be-played-out-in-movie-91466-31720184/
I am old enough to remember him - a fantastically gifted player, something along the lines of Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles and Duncan McKenzie. An amazing touch on the ball and fantastic balance for somebody a lot taller than Messi!
So who will play the lead? Would it be someone who could empathise with his off field experiences? Russell Brand or Pete Doherty maybe?
A real character I remember well, but his team mates needed to make sure their kit bags were secure used to turn up with his kit in a carrier bag l
Not to mention the "presents" he would leave in the beds of others. He was a little tinker wasn't he???
A gifted player but we at Cardiff City only saw him for a short while. The most gifted player I've seen in a City shirt.

Good. It's about time you old gits asked us youngsters to comment. I was lucky enough to be given the book some ten years ago and it really is a tragic story. I hope the film stays true to the book and that there isn't any romantisising of a sad tale. As for Robin himself, my great grandfather tells me that he reminded him of Greg Farrell, another gifted but wayward star. All before my time of course, and I'm sure I speak for all of us kids when I say that I wish I'd been around when these guys donned the city shirt.
Thank goodness we've got Old Sparkey to tell us about the good old days. He has personal experience of supporting the city from Keenor onwards.
To help you with the history cling, I've got some cut outs from a favourite periodical of the time. A pink paper call the 'football echo'. It was a sort of predecessor of the internet. You could get the scores and articles in almost real time. My dad would drive back from the match and by the time we got home I'd open up the appropriate window....... ..... and the paper boy would throw a copy in.
you mean it was actually pink? I remember seeing one in the library archives and just assumed it had discoloured
Yes, Football Echo in Cardiff and Newport and Football Argus in Newport. Both usually in the newspaper shops by 5.45 pm on Saturday afternoons. Just in time to pick up on the way home from the game. A great loss for all football fans when they stopped printing these. And they got more facts right than the bloody Western Mail and Eggo and Argus who now only publish newsprint a day in arrears. Okay they get online quicker but usually get that wrong too.
I think the front page banner was green but to be honest I can't remember. Green was always a sort of Newport colour - buses, council vehicles etc although Newport Rugby in black and amber and Newport County originally in amber and then tangerine contradicts that. Can't even find out on Google.
