Saying as you ****s keep ****ing things up and we get no signings when you's do it. I'll start this here n now.
This summer is going to be the window where the revolution really starts to get under way. The ownership has played an absolute blinder so far, and managed to get the foundations successfully laid already. The PSR situation will have been ridden out, while the club looks to have held a top 8 league standing. It's not beyond the realms of possibility Newcastle could be offering European football to players in the summer, and showing them plans for a fantastic training ground and stadium. It's amazing how far this has gone forward, and it's only the beginning.
Doesn't it depend entirely upon whether some of the proposed new financial controls are voted in? The squad cost ratio rule they were talking about (last summer?) replacing existing PSR with, sounded like it would tie further weights to the ankles of aspirational clubs. We'll probably need to see what kind of restrictive effect new squad cost ratio rules will have upon our ability to spend, before we can say anything too positive.
I'm only aware of the discussions they've had around implementing the new supposed squad cost ratio rules. The official vote hasn't taken place, however I heard Masters claiming early indications are that those rules would be passed in a vote. When could they start them? I would imagine it would be years away because they'd have to allow the club's to get things in order. Newcastle are good to go, to a degree of course.
I wish i had your confidence. Summer needs to be the transformative window we've heard about for years now. As it stands, Dubs, Schar, Lascelles, Wilson, Krath, Ruddy, Gillespie all out of contract this year. Granted barring Schar and discounting ruddy & gillespie, the rest are squad players, but given the state of our youth team, they all need replaced. We probably need 3 first teamers and a whole load of squad players, it's going to take a lot of money, mitchell will really need to earn his salary and howe needs to be more accepting of the players earmarked.
A message to my assailants there! There's not many that seem to be able to push through, when the seas appear a little rough. I understand the doubts, but you can be sure things will push on again, and we'll see more and more exciting times mate.
I'm with this, as a regular doubting thomas. Even when we've been pushing, we tend to end a transfer window at least 2 players shy of where we need to be. As this has now happened in the past 3 windows, we're tracking at about 6 players behind schedule. Under Ashley, it meant scraping survival. Now, it means a real struggle to get to the promised land. I also don't have a lot of faith in Howe to be ruthless. I can see most of that list being kept around, plus Pope, Burn, Longstaff. I can easily see a transfer window where money is spent, but on substitute full backs, a sub striker, more young but expensive players. What should happen is a firesale, led by Barnes and Longstaff. The problem is history tends to repeat itself. Just using the two per position rule, we really need a new starting GK, new starting RW, new starting RCB and a reliable backup option up front. That's, as usual, the minimum. I would bet a lot of money we won't get anywhere near that - we're more likely to see a 1 year extension for Dubs, a young sub at RW so Murphy starts and maybe some sub replacements for those that do leave. I can only see us spending on a CB, but I'm still worried that Howe really rates Burn and Schar. NUFC should have: New GK / Pope; Tino / Krafth; New RCB / Schar; Botman / Burn; Hall / Backup LB; Tonali / Miley; Bruno / Backup Attacking CM; Joelinton / Willock; Gordon / Backup LW; Isak / Backup CF; New RW / Murphy. Then a bunch of younger players ready for games - Osula, Harrison, White, Sanusi, Shahar, McArthur, Murphy - getting minutes in the LC.
I've said this a good few times. There was always going to have to be a period of inactivity with the amount we chucked on the first winter window and the first summer window. It's the price we have had to pay to stay up. It's one we would all have gladly agreed to at the time.
Jesus will you get off the sell Longstaff bandwagon man. Learn the rules of the game before spouting this **** will you? The lads the only home grown talent in the squad for European football ffs.
Sorry to poop on the positivity parade but the new rules next year will affect us big time and I’m not convinced we have as much transfer potential as we may think. So I’m saying 75m NET.
I'm quietly confident we will have a wedge to spend this summer. £150m maybe possibly more. Still only three needed in my eyes; GK, RCB, RW and then we are covered sufficiently: GK/Pope/Odysseas Tino/Krafth, RCB/Schar, Botman/Burn, Hall/Targett, Bruno/Longstaff* Tonali/Miley* Joelinton/Willock RW/Murphy Gordon/Barnes Isak/Osula If we do have around - lets call it - £100m to spend we should easily be able to fill those holes: £20m for a Gk like Trafford £40m on a CB a-la Botman Then that leaves a RW/CF for £40m which should be doable - especially if we can agree a deal with Jonathan David early doors on a free... Just to note that the squad above is only 23 BUT, if we are in Europe, all we can register for the European comps as we have 2 homegrown and need to leave 2 spaces out of the 25 (to make a total of 4) if we cant register another 2 who've been at the club for 3 years before their 21st Birthday.
In theory Miley wouldn't count as he's under 21. They can put him in if short and register him but if we'd had the numbers it wouldn't have been required. It will be an issue going forward though.
