So the new season is just around the corner and we have a fantastic bunch of strikers. Who would you choose to play up front ? Personally, i'd go for Lambert and Connolly at the momment. Connolly sounds as if he is in fine form in pre season and looked a real gem at the end of last season. I really do hope he can stay fit (at least for a while) this season.
Agreed. But i do have a soft spot for Barney. He is a machine on the pitch. However Connolly should start based on recent performances.
As it stands now it has to Lambo and Conners, simply on form. Both lads are on fire at the moment and are looking really sharp. It's good to be able to have the choice though, Lambert (unless injured) will most likely start every game, and he has great partnerships with all three of Connolly, Barnard and Guly which is a real bonus.
No one can debate that Connolly has always been a class player - it was just his fitness issues that meant people were calling for him to be released - but it looks like it's behind him now (hopefully) and he can have a great season.
Not actually everyone....Schneiderlin.......Although a fair proportion. To be fair he had to win every one over and did he not just do that in style?
Lambert and Guly for me. Adkins has often repeated that Guly has been 'gold' and on 'fire' this pre season so think he will get the nod just ahead of Connolly
Connolly's been banging the goals in though, which Guly hasn't yet. Connoly and Lambert to start for me, with Guly coming on, and when Barnard is fit, he can alternate with Guly for the bench.
start with Lambo and DC, but I still would like another quality striker. Not belittling those we have, but would like the strength of another. Look at the what we have, and DC is looking great, but is he really going to give us 30 games? Barney for all his industry is unproven at this level and although Lambo is too, his holding the ball up will be vital to us this year. Guly can play the striker role, but better as an AM. Forte unsure. I think we need another. If de Ridder can do that role as well, thenh fair enough. Remember we did bid for Sharp so NA wanted another striker.
I wouldn't be surprised to see us end up with a flexible 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 formation soon, with 2 wide boys and an AM bombing on.
Lambert and Connelly - Lambert has never looked fitter IMO, Connolly is such an intelligent player and his movement is clever and he finds space so well. Finally, we he has the ball, he looked so assured when in possession. Not need for me to spout Rickies qualities; we all know his strengths. Great pairing. On the negative side, however; I was not impressed by Guly against WBA; he looked a little lost up front as the target man; IMO he is not a striker, rather an attacking central midfielder with a very good eye for goals. I think he plays better coming onto the ball when its played into him from a front man. I like him alot because you do not know what he's going to do next (me-thinks neither does know he on occasion)... that unpredictablity can open up a game - but it can be painful to watch too when he gets it all wrong!
The thing is with Guly, he can just shut off for a long time in a game or maybe even a couple of games. I don't find him reliable but he suddenly pops up with a goal and doesnt do anything else. (he did it a couple of times last season) Those goals he scores prove vital as i just explained that he scores and doesnt do anything else sometimes, it was a 1-0 win before so it would kind of be bitter sweet to see him play. Still rather Connolly or Barnard.
I see Guly as attacking midfield also or as an impact player later in game. Connelly to partner Lambert for me.
