I'm sure AVB will continue with his own assessment but I'll be surprised if he starts more then a handfull of games next season. I'm all for giving youngsters a chance Spain and I would be happy to be proved wrong, but unfortunately I'm on a roll.
Yes., this must surely go into the 'ugly' category.... why! hes almost frightening., and not even 40 year old.
...well - that's what Physioroom tell me. The Mail want to tell me that he'll be fit for pre-season. Has the OS said anything?
I think that dempsey has scored some important goals and has done ok ... Not great but ok. I expecited better from Adebayor who has not even done ok until the chelsea game imo. The reason i mentioned boo boys re dempsey is that on the few occasions i have been lucky enough to afford to go to the lane dempsey gets way too much criticism ... Again just in my opinion...and stating a player during a match is ugly imo. My points re Adebayor were an attempt at humour.
Good: Gareth Bale. Jan Vertonghen. Record points total. Beating Utd at Old Trafford. Bad: Even though results were good, performances were mostly boring which resulted in relying on Bale too much. Conceding from set-pieces too easily. Players showing lack of determination in cup games. Poor home form. The librarians that got in to Park Lane this season, never known it so quiet. Ugly: Missing out on Champions League on the last day of the season (though expected). Adebayor's form. Home loss to Wigan was one of the worst performances I've ever seen, think my eyes nearly bled.
Statistically Dempsey actually had a decent season. 7 goals in 28 games (1 in 4 ratio) and also got about 4 or 5 assists in the league. I did say statistically though, as performance-wise he was pretty ****. Adebayor was statistically **** and performed atrociously.
Sorry Bajan, but are your seriously saying that as a straight comparison Dempsey is more talented and with more ability than Ade?? As has been said, neither has covered themselves in glory this season, but at his best Ade is a world class striker and has proved that at various clubs over the years. Dempsey, and not to slate him, is not at that level. And as for Holtby, he is a young lad who has developed well in the Bundesliga and had a sporadic introduction to the PL, seldom if ever playing in the same position twice and bench-warming for most of the last 6 weeks. But he has done that without any hint of complaint, shows genuine enthusiasm around his teammates and has made sensible press comments. Far too early to judge whether he will be a star for us, but also far too early to write off.
I understand Holtby needed to work on his fitness when he arrived, next season will see if he is ready. He looks a busy, intelligent player with an eye for a pass, fully fit he could be awesome imo.
From a commercial point of view Dempsey has probably helped our profile in the US, that's apparent from watching Fox Soccer streams. A bit like when Gazza went to Italy and Channel 4 set up their Italia Football programme. As a player he's not great and we could do a lot better IMO but he at least put's in the effort and has scored some important goals. Better than Bent ever was for example.
Agree with that 100% mate - and as I said, was not slating Dempsey per se, just disagreeing with Bajans comparison. But with the possible exception of Spurcat, none of us KNOW what the coaching brief is to the players on any given match day, so are not in the best positions to judge whether or not our 'disappointment' with certain players performance is down to their own commitment or ability - or in fact they are carrying out orders to the letter. (Of course, I exclude sending a penalty kick into inner orbit from that list of possible instructions..... )
Yep, Spurs Official Twitter account also announced about 10 new USA based "official" supporters clubs, no doubt some of that is due to Dempsey pulling on the Spurs Soccer Jersey!
no one deserves the critisism at the game. The team should be encouraged by the fans who are present. However, away from the stadium, it's a bit different as it doesn't directly affect the performance. I know you were only joking RCL. - I think text can sometimes come across wrong. I wasn't having a go mate, just pointing out that we're clutching at straws to say anything decent. Yep, Dempsey has mate. But it's the lack of impact over the full 90 mins and all the other "dross" elements of his game that we have to endure which counteract the good bits. He did get better towards the end of the season, However, I would say that he'd be better off used as an impact sub who can work hard to shut down the opposition when legs get tired. We just need someone who's a bit more dynamic over the 90 mins to start the game.
