The Bad; Losing points with late goals conceded (85 plus mins) in the first half of the season v WBA (2pts); Norwich (2pts) Everton (3pts) Man city totalling 8 points failing to score at home against Stoke Wigan and Fulham losing 5-2 at Arsenal going out of all 3 cups too early The good 1)Winning points with late goals in the second half of the season; norwich away (1 point) Everton (1 point) Wigan (1 point) Man utd (1 point) Chelsea (1 point) Southampton (2 points) Stoke (2 points) Sunderland (2 points) - it suggests there is a keep going til the final whistle attitude in the team that could continue next season. 2)Beating Man utd 3-2 and drawing 1 all 3)Beating city 3-1 4)taking 11 points off the top 4...points 2-4 suggest we may have turned a corner physcologically as we usual get far fewer points (if any) against the top 4 clubs. 5)getting 72 points - although we came 5th we have improved our points total so that's another small step forward and shows how wrong I was about AVB being a poor choice of manager The Ugly 1)Adebayor's form until the Chelsea game 2)Lack of clean sheets 2)Adebayors poor control until the chelsea game 4)Our injury record 5)Adebayors poor heading 6)Our lack of early signings ... i think this played a big part in our early season form...the dropping of points etc. 7)Adebayors poor shooting 8)David Bentley STILL being a spurs player!! 9)Adebayors poor hold up play 10)Dempsey becoming a target for boo boys (imo unfairly) 11) Adebayors ****ing penalty which still orbits the earth 12) Gareth Bales early season dives 13) Everything about Charlie Adam 14) Bale being booked for being fouled on a weekly basis 15) Have I mentioned adebayor???????
Am I to assume that you are not looking to retain our Togolese CF for next season??? I do think that putting so much blame at Ades door is OTT. For all the reasons discussed as infinitum, he clearly had the most disrupted season imaginable - some of which may be self-inflicted, but a lot outside his control (or at least unproven either way). Many will say his late season form was only self-interest to raise his stock prior to a move, but whilst undoubtedly misfiring on a mammoth scale in some ways, his attitude and effort was pretty good throughout. Just going to put my tin-hat on and run........
The Good: 72 points, 21 wins, etc Bale Good signings; Jan, Dembele and Lloris Only side unbeaten against the champions(United) Youth sides doing well The Bad: No CL qualification Disappointing signings: Dempsey, Sigurdsson, Ade and Holtby Cup progress The Ugly: Losing out to Arsenal on the final day of the season again Walker and Ade's form compared to last season Referees
I agree with that but its interesting that the three expensive signings are all good and the four cheap ones are all disappointing. It might simply reflect the fact that we can't afford the best in every position.
Agree with all comments except Holtby. Think it is unfair on the lad as he has hardly been given a run of games and when he has turned out it has been in any number of different positions.
I would 'nt say Holtby is a bad signingAs above he's had hardly any games to establise himself and out of position most of the time.He will come good i've no doubt,he's a German international and they have to be good to get in the German team
Despite calling them disappointing signings I don't mean that I'm disappointed we signed them, I just expected more from them. Holtby, after some promising sub appearances at the start, only really seemed to work for us as a little scrapper who got around the pitch, not as a player that would help us open team up in the final third like I was expecting.
I think Holtby needs more time, and playing time, of course. He's moved into a completely different league, and so far has only been used sporadically. In general, you don't get to play for Germany if you don't have something extra about you. One for the future, IMO.
I can see Holtby playing central midfield alongside Sandro next season, rather than filling in as a makeshift member of the attacking midfield trio as he often did this season.
There's got to be reason for this., I've long since had the believe that only the 'brutally tough' or 'exceptionally talented' players make it to top English Primiership Club level. Holtby IMO is neither. Can you see him getting a play at Utd., City., Chelsea or even the arse. He must have been touted for sale long before he arrived at Spurs and I suspect at least two of the afore mentioned clubs had a good look at him. I can't help but feel this oppointment was part of an appeasement plan which was clearly in operation at the time. I do however, hope he develops into a decent utility player, for all our sake.
I'd like to know how Dempsey being a target for "boo boys" is unacceptable, yet it's fine to slate Ade in every other point of the "ugly" section. They've both been poor, there's no defending either of them.
As I say, give the guy a chance! You seem all too ready to just write him off with next to no evidence to go on. I repeat, you do NOT get to play for the German national side unless you have something going for you.
The fact that someone thought he could play in a German side dosn't necessarily make him a perfect fit for us. I'm just going by what I've seen of this player.
I'm OK with the good and the bad, but since Modric left I'm struggling with the ugly. Friedel's no oil painting is he? please log in to view this image
Which, as I say, has been very little. I think he's one for the future. Of course there's always a chance he won't make it at Spurs, but he should be given a chance to show what he can do. So far, that hasn't happened.
