Simple question, does our scally R.O.I centre back need to CALM DOWN CALM DOWN? Anthony has featured well so far this season and seems to be trying hard to prove any doubters of his true defensive qualities that he is up to the task and the competition for his position is a motivating factor. My worry for our Anthony is that he has played 10 games and accumulated 4 bookings in the process. One more booking will trigger an automatic ban that could allow those waiting in the wings to take his place by default. The outcome could see Gezza relegated back to the bench or even out of the match day 16 for a while if he’s not careful. As much as I admire his enthusiasm for the game I could not believe his naivety in the Southampton game when he demonstrated the foul late in the game to the ref by proceeding to push the match official.
Passion and enthusiasm needs to be coupled with common sense, a commodity not found in great abundance amongst footballers
Certainly wears his heart on his sleeve - his outburst and shoving contest with Marshall two seasons back showed that. Doesn't take any prisoners on the pitch, but if he tempered that attitude, would he lose his edge?
Would you rest Gerrard for the next fixture against Ipswich in the knowledge he's a no holds barred player on 4 yellows, and his openness with comments made about last season's big egos? Bear in mind who will be up front for the Tractor Boys on 15th October.
Proph....I was once a footballer, quite sensible, and not a little passionate......been paying for a trembler ever since!
