Bristol Rovers Vs York City, Memorial Stadium, Bristol, FA Cup First Round, November 8th 2013, 7:45 Kick Off please log in to view this image Vs please log in to view this image JW On The FA Cup JW has got his eye on a FA Cup third round tie against one of the big boys if his team can get through the first two rounds of the competition. Although the manager will be taking it one game at a time, he wants to be in the velvet bag for the draw for round three. He said: “The bottom line for us at the moment is to win the first two games in the FA Cup and then get drawn away at Old Trafford. “None of us in this round are going to win the FA Cup, so you want to get that dream draw. “You want to make the club a bit of cash, give the supporters a day out, give your players an experience, and then get on with your league programme. “I want to win against York City, I want to win the second round and then I want to be sat keeping my fingers crossed for a big one in the third round.” Rovers’ form has steadily improved over the last few weeks, but they will be taking on a York side who are scoring for fun at the moment. John said: “We have never lost our concentration and work ethic, we have kept a pretty even keel throughout everything we have done, and we have picked up four points in the last two games against top four teams. “But we have an opponent who has also got four points from their last two games, but have scored six goals to our one. “We have to give that respect and make sure we don’t go into the game with any sort of loose attitude. “We need to try and perform as well as we have in our last two games to see if we can get through.” The manager is looking forward to a Friday night game under the lights. He said: “It is a Friday night game and it is the FA Cup. Come 10pm on Friday, we are either in it, out of it or heading to York on a Tuesday night, they are the three outcomes, and we want to make sure we are in it. “Friday under lights is a really good atmosphere, and it adds a little bit extra to a game. “If you can win your game Saturday is a nice time to be a football manager. It is a big occasion, the fans want us to win, the team wants to win, so let’s see if we can do it.” And although Rovers will be missing John-Joe O’Toole (suspension) and Will Packwood (cup tied) they will have three senior players back in contention. John said: “We have Matt Harrold and Lee Brown back fit and well again and we David Clarkson back after his suspension, so we have those boys back in the group, so it is getting stronger. “Matt and Lee have both trained really well and really hard this week, so it is good to get them back. “It is three senior players coming back to bolster the squad.” Ticket NewsPrices reduced around the ground including quid a kid. York City will be without ineligible loanees Luke O'Neill and Ben Davies. They could be replaced by Lanre Oyebanjo and Jamal Fyfield, but defender David McGurk (hamstring) remains out. Bristol Rovers team news to follow. VIEW FROM THE TRAINING GROUND York City boss Nigel Worthington told BBC Radio York: "It can be a welcome distraction and a run in this competition can help your league form too. "There'll be some enforced changes but the thing I'd like to see us do is keep the performance level as high as it has been in the last few games. "We had a good game against them earlier this season that ended in a 3-2 defeat. We've got nothing to be afraid of there."
JJOT is suspended brown and harrold in contention after injury. clarkson is back after his 3 match suspension. henshall is given permission to play from man city. packwood not given permission to play from brum. my guess is also 2-1 win. harrison and harrold with the goals.
Looks like I'm the only one to have gone for a draw. I have 2 reasons: 1. York are in decent form and should have some confidence 2. We still don't look likely to score from open play.
I know exactly what you mean AMOT and I too was very tempted to go for the draw. However, after several months of total pessimism, I'm going to try and be a bit more 'glass half full' so I'm sticking to a narrow win. UTG!

line up: ---------------mildenhall---------------- smith----lockyer----parkes----brown clucas---norburn---clarke----santos ---------richards----beardsley-------- subs: Gough, Keary, Southway, Harrison, Clarkson, Brunt and Harrold. Henshall misses out so guess that he wasnt allowed to play after all. o'toole suspended. packwood not allowed to play. so lockyer moves from LB to CB to replace packwood and brown returns from injury to play LB. norburn moves back into CM to replace o'toole. no other changes.
for those who cant listen to radio bristol as out of coverage area, radio york has the game on here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24850971 be interesting to hear the game from the oppositions view instead of the biased rovers commentators who seem to talk more about other things than actually commentate on the game itself.
FFS, not impressed with the york commentary! straight from kick off he said the game is on the way between bristol city and york city
no chances so far. rovers passing the ball better though and york pressurising the rovers players a lot.
york puts in a cross and mildenhall punched the ball when there was no need to do so as no players near him.
dirty tackle by the same york player who got sent off at the mem earlier in the season. only got a yellow but could and should have been a red apparently.
