Manchester United are continuing to monitor the progress of Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. The young goalkeeper broke through into the Sunderland first team in the second half of last season, impressing in his three appearances. United and Tottenham have been heavily linked with the highly-rated goalkeeper, and reports have emerged that scouts from Old Trafford have been present in Toulon during the past week, watching Pickford as he represented England’s Under-21s. Manchester United officials are thought to see Pickford as a long-term replacement for David de Gea who is still being linked with a move to Real Madrid, despite signing a new deal at Old Trafford last season. Jose Mourinho has just taken over at Manchester United but that is not thought to harm any potential move the English giants would make for Pickford. United have Sergio Romero and Victor Valdes on the books as well as De Gea, but both could depart the club this summer, paving the way for Pickford to move to the North West. However, any chance of capturing the 22-year-old would rest on a substantial amount of cash. Pickford only last season signed a new deal at the Stadium of Light which sees him contracted to Sunderland until 2020. He is highly thought of by manager Sam Allardyce who will likely be reluctant to sell one of the club’s brightest prospects. Pickford has certainly caught the eye recently, with ex-England international-turned pundit David James recently tipping him for a full England call-up ahead of Euro 2016. Burnley’s Tom Heaton eventually got the nod from Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson as the third-choice shot-stopper for this summer’s tournament in France. England U21s play France this evening in the Toulon tournament final with Manchester United officials expected to present. Feck off Man U.
I think it would be in Pickford's own interest to stay with us for the foreseeable future if he values progressing into the England job. DeGhea still has a lengthy contract time left and there is no guarantee that Pickford will regularly get game time. With only Vito ahead of him his chances are better with us.
I hope he stays with us. We all know money talks though and every player has his price. If Man Utd offer us about 12m upfront, with a few millions in add-ons. I don't think we'd stand in his way.
I'm talking realistically with the prices, what I think the club would deal at. Me personally, I'd tell them I want at least 20m before I even sat down with them and I'd expect Januzaj and Wilson sent over for a season on loan. I know how good he is, mate. I'm desperate for us to keep hold of him.
Lol i was joking. Hes shyte hot and English at the same time. His future value could and probably will be 20m. I really hope we can keep him for a few more years. His distribution is immense!
20mil for an U21 England goalkeeper, with just about 3-4 PL games and 8 goals conceded? Is that about right? That would be the sale of the century!
He was warming the forwards up against Chelsea. He was pinging the balls in from out wide, every cross was Beckham-esque and finding it's man. Great goalkeeper as well. Vito finished the season very strongly for us, but I still want us to go with Pickford, next season and just chuck him in at the deep end.
I really hope he is our first choice next season. Telling him that may be our only way of keeping him!
What's the record for a gk in this country? We paid £18m for De Gea... Is that it? How much was Butland?
I think it was about 10m. Pickford would be a shadow of that due to lack of Prem experience. Thats why i really hope we keep him another year or 2
