Just renewing this thread for keen posters of action from the Football League. What's this I hear about Saints interest in Danny Ings..? I think he's got a very bright future, and he might be better off with us. Reckon he'd jump at the chance too. Now carry on.
One thing that makes me wonder about footballers that never make it; Danny Ings used to be Saints schoolboy [something I missed twice because I played crappy each time], but never got to be selected to carry on, and later went to Bournemouth where he flourished. Now, of course, he's a very capable player, and in his recent games for the England U21s he has clearly stood out as a player to watch, let alone the games he plays for Burnley, where has been very impressive. Yet Saints let him go as a kid. What didn't they see at the time, that made their minds up..? That would have been the era of Huw Jennings, Malcolm Elias, Stuart Henderson, and Steve Wigley. Now while Wigley wasn't the best first team coach [put in the deep end by Rupes], he wasn't half bad for the Youth. But this foursome, who are now at Fulham, I think, missed Ings from their normally perceptive radar. Really makes me wonder how much more talent, that might have prospered just a little later, gets the boot. Even Gareth Bale only just made it. As did Oxo.
Read an article yesterday aboit one of the Yeovil players who was in the Ipwich side that beat a Lallana, Bale team in the FA Youth Final back in 2004. Only a few still playing at a high level.
Are you seriously bemoaning coaches not selecting a player who goes on to make it? Happens all the time and players develop at different rates and different ages. Your post makes it sound easy, which it is with hindsight.
Chelsea turned down Shaw because he was too short...all teams will have missed out on players who subsequently came good and also pick players who never make it. Kids develop at different rates and being physically advanced can make you look better than you are. Our academy is successful..that's all we need to know.
Oxford United manager Chris Wilder has resigned, to join 24th placed Northampton Town. Oxford chairman Ian Lenagan says he rejected an approach from NTFC, but Wilder has now resigned. Lenagan says Wilder is in breach of contract.
Quote of the season from Mick McCarthy tonight: "Some people might be frustrated with that result? Some people can **** off."
