Sign DJ Campbell (if we can afford him) on a permanent deal in January. He is a consistent goal getter in this division and he reminds me very much of David Johnson when he first arrived here! MM initmated that he would like us to get him on a longer deal so I really hope that ME will put his hand in pocket and shell out the money. Today has proved what us fans have been saying for some time! You have got to start with 2 strikers up front and I liked the selection of N'Daw who was frozen out (for no reason) by Jewell.

There is talk of Chambers moving to right back thus allowing Edwards to play further up the pitch. At the same time Tommy Smith to come in at Centre Back alongside Higginbottom. I have to say that I wouldn't mind this change and afterall Tommy is a lot better than some of his performances would suggest. He is not afraid to attack the ball in the air at both ends of the pitch and will give us an extra attacking option from set pieces. It would be ironic if he scored from a set peice on Tuesday night against Delaney!

I'm not getting carried away by the win over a very poor Birmingham side but so long as MM can instill some much needed confidence and 100% work ethic which the players displayed today, the undoubted quality that we possess will shine in the weeks ahead. I reckon a top 10 finish is definately possible.

All very encouraging, one step at a time though JWM......... (I remember a few good results in our last premier league season and people started talking about finishing in a European slot again!!). A top 10 (might as well go for 6th!) finish would be sensational, and anything can happen in this league, but we have a long road ahead.

I will be happy with 4th from bottom this season
I agree that ME must back MM in the transfer market. I do hope that come the end of Jan, we have players that are actually ours playing for us instead of relying on loan players. Not sure about Chambers as a RB but it is obviously 1 position that does need looking at. Mm will have to have a look at Ainsley (& when he's fit) Hewitt (though I wouldn't expect Hewitt to be challenging for the 1st team quite yet)

Would love to see DJ brought in, maybe in place of Chopra (like for like in terms of wages)
Only trouble is that if he continues to score goals and QPR continue to struggle then they will likely not want to sell/extend his deal and instead bring him back to help their plight out.

Agree with most of what JWM has said, but for me Tommy Smith has no future here, one of the most honest players in the club, with a great attitude, but seems out of his depth in this league, too slow and ponderous, and the opposing forwards lose him with ease. Cast your mind back a few years, on loan to Colchester, he struggled badly even at that level, and there was one notorious game where he was held responsible for all three goals, I think it was, in a home league match.

Remember he is only 21 years old, and defenders tend to get better later on in their careers. I think attitude is the most important thing in developing players, you can learn how to read the game, and you can learn football skills to some extent but you can't learn a new attitude - so with the right manager and coaches I still have hope for him.

" I have to say that I wouldn't mind this change and afterall Tommy is a lot better than some of his performances would suggest. "

Dear god, should we have Higginbotham + Smith together at centre back we'd have the slowest CB partnership in the history of football!

Smith should be loaned out for this season, as he's nowhere near good enough. I don't think he has any long-term future with us.

" Remember he is only 21 years old, and defenders tend to get better later on in their careers. "

You may well have a point here, however I for one am not willing for him to stay with us for the next 10 years so like a fine wine, he develops over time. Just get shot. Should he go down to league 1 / 2 ( which is his level, probably league 2 ) then he can build a career for another club.

Nice guy, tries hard, simply not good enough in any way shape or form.

Agreed. Love his commitment but he's gash.

We're a rag-tag outfit. If MM get's us away from danger I'll take it. Our team is so disjointed it's a footballing clusterfuck.

I imagine we'll be looking at a whole new team by August..... deja vu
