I think SOD is on very very borrowed times, I said a few weeks ago that if we still had not won after the home game against Brentford then SOD should go, and nothing to date has changed my view on this. The big question is who, I said before Del and SOD we should have got Billy Davies in and there were howls of derision from many on here, about how he was a whinging jock etc etc. Well look where Forest are now compared to us. Liking the manager is not important something our board continually fails to see, 3 nice blokes in Millen, Del and SOD, but **** all to show for it. Could we entice a Glenn Hoddle & Ray Wilkins management duo?I doubt it so we will most likely end up with Monkey's Heed as our next boss, God help us!!
I think Colin would do the job we all want, but think most people dislike him. I'd personally love to see us take a punt on Paul Clement, but think he is as unrealistic as Hoddle, O'Neill. If we had any ambition anymore, we would go out and go for a high flying manager currently out of work like SAF
Anyone, literally anyone instead of this idiot As for the board and their stupid ideas it's all falling apart around their ears. At a time like this we dont need corporate spiel about 5 pillars. We need results and performances on the pitch and nothing else matters. This is Bristol City, and we're bottom of L1, we are not Real Madrid !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've always been a firm supporter of SOD, and I think he's a great guy who could do wonders for the club in the long-term, but this has gone on for long enough now. I think he needs to be given two more games now, and unless we get a win in either of those games SOD will need to go. The board need to issue an ultimatum to him and the players. Two games, one win, or the manager is gone. The most painful part of this whole ordeal is that the board will once again walk away completely free once again. All those that believed that the board let relegation happen to enforce financial fair play on the club may have been right, because it looks like they're doing the exact same thing to get the club in League 2! If SOD goes then I want both Lansdown's gone as well. All this money, and we're no better off. If anything, we're a LOT worse, because after our stadium issues any potential investor will now know that they have absolutely no chance of developing in the area and increasing their investment. I think the official fans group should look towards a buyout of the club. Set up a website, or even a kickstarter, get the fans to donate money, and then ensure that the club is always 51% owned by the fans.
I dont think this suggestion is the answer. Even if we win in the next 2 games then what ? Will we go another 5, 10, 20 games before we win again ? The board, and especially the owner are responsible for this total shambles, and you're 100% correct that they will walk away scot free whatever else happens. As I've put elsewhere I hope Lansdown is looking to sell and attract a proper investor to take over the club.
Maybe not, but who knows what will happen if SOD can actually get a win from these players. On paper they shouldn't be as weak as they are. If the team can win a match, it could turn our whole season around. Any kind of promotion is now out of the question, but I don't think many fans thought it was a possibility either way. I can't see it happening. A lot of people rate Lansdown's ability as a businessman, but if after all these years he cannot raise a profit from the club, and cannot win a fully winnable court case against a dozen locals with all his legal might then what good will anyone else do? The stadium saga has damaged this club as much as the teams form has.
Chatting to a Forest fan the other day- He was never really impressed by SOD. Says that he had lost the dressing room at Forest. I don't really understand this. I have worked with a number of managers in my time who saw the world in a different way to me, but heck, at the end of the day, they were in charge, and you did what they said. I had an alternative, which I did twice, and moved employers, without any pay off or contract clauses etc. I do hope for stability that this can be resolved but as I have said before 20 games without a win cannot go on indefinitely
His business sense is beyond reproach but his tenure as owner/chairman/offshore consultatant (!!) has only serviced our debts which he allowed to accumulate. We've never pushed on and really gone for it even when membership of the Premiership was there for the taking. He now says he is embarrassed by what he spent (£50m) but in football terms, and for a billionaire it's not big money. Although I would be more than happy to be given it !!
I have deliberatly taken a step back for a couple of days - so here goes.. The club IS in a massive transitional phase - what's happening off the pitch is having a massive impact on the pitch. Something had to be done - in the last financial results, the club lost £14M in one year (piled on top of losses already accrued during previous years) - that's unsustainable (don't need to remind anyone about 1982 etc do I?). So yes mistakes were made, some of them by people still on the board of the club. However, at least they have recognised that things needed to change, and the "5 pillars" plan was formed. Most of this plan makes sense does it not? So SoD has a almost impossible job handed to him - trying to rejuvenate a club with a massively reduced budget, while still having to keep some players not in the team who are on big contracts (Kilkenny etc). The managers mentioned elsewhere in this thread would all want money to spend - we don't have any (or much). Changing Manager is an expensive business. Yes we could sack SoD and bring in someone new, but is that really going to solve the problem - since GJ (who was hounded out by fan pressure) we have got shot of Millen and McInnes - did that improve things? A couple of decent results and things could change for the better - I know that sounds optimistic, but football is like that - a couple of wins brings confidence which is hugely important in football. The players are all behind SoD, so he "has the dressing room". So I'm saying I know things are tough, but lets support SoD who is doing a difficult job - perhaps we had to go backwards for things to get better - but get better they will
How on earth do you know the players are behind SoD, JET certainly didn't act like he was behind his manager. As for all the other stuff, we are not the first team to go through a transistion, and other teams have performed far better. At the end of the day we have a high wage bill of players that should be beating the likes of our last 4 opponents! For gods sake Sheffield Utd just beat Port Vale with a poor side on paper and NO manager!!!!!!
SOD took the job knowing full well what he did and didnt have at his disposal. Few of us expected us to walk the league this season, but I would also suggest that no-one on here thought things would be anything like as bad as they actually are right now given who we've played, and some of the dreadful performances, and the worse thing is that I can see no end in sight to the state of things. Add to that some of the inane stuff that comes out of SOD's mouth and I've heard and seen enough to convince me beyond all doubt that he is not the man I want in charge of my club
