With Charlton back in the Play Off slots, I wonder if the publicity hungry but skint Aussies will be dusting off their love affair with our club ? #DustThoseScarvesOff
something has to happen in january, otherwise we might as well take it that the club isnt really up for sale. even an idiot can sell a football club. richard murray did it, the spivs did it.... simon jordan even did it.
Funny, I was talking about Richard Murray to a fellow Charlton fan at work this morning. This guy has mixed with very senior people at the club, RM included. We both agreed what a pathetic figure Murray now cut.
if he kept it, he'd have lost more eventually. same with roland. he's holding out for £40m, being offered £20m. in the 12 months since last january he's already lost £12m. 8 more months and he's in negative equity.
Jordan lost nearer £70m on Palace - every penny he had made from Carphone Warehouse. Steve Goldberg also did his wotsits at Palace.
Goldberg used to drink in The C/Oakhill in Beckenham. I could almost feel sorry for him as he is a palice fan.
This is why I think the Club is not really for sale. It suits Duchatelet for several reasons (some of them inexplicable to fans) to keep the Club perpetually 'for sale' but as you point out, it is not very difficult to sell a Club if you really want to. Mike Ashley says he wants to sell Newcastle United, but what he really wants is £300 million. I heard he turned down £250 million in cash. Roland says he wants to sell Charlton but what he really wants is to make somebody else pay for his mistakes.
@lardiman I bumped into a very good source on Charlton matters today - by which I mean ex Boardroom level. What he told me about the Aussies was scathing, and confirmed that the whole thing was a massive “get up”.
Depressing news. No take-over will mean further weakening in January and next summer. RD's cost cutting will continue, as will his lies about wanting to sell the Club. But nobody will be listening anymore. Ever growing apathy will see home attendances drop below 6,000, then 5,000. That's about the lowest they have ever been apart from the years of exile in the late 1980's and the season at Catford in 1924.
The Aussies never had the money for the asking price. They also had a very, very bizarre plan for their involvement at the club in the unlikely event that RD halved his asking price. I got that from someone who isn’t a keyboard warrior, doesn’t post on forums, and would know. We had a narrow escape with the Aussies. Thank God we lost to Shrewsbury.
Under this owner the Club is slowly fading away. I seriously wonder now whether administration and punitive relegation in season 2013-14 might not have led ultimately to a better present day in 2018 and future going forward than we have at this time. Clubs often bounce back from disasters with a reborn sense of purpose. We did it before in the 1980's. Instead Duchatelet is smothering everything in a shroud of disinterest and paralysing apathy that could go on for years, and rob the Club of its fan base for ever.
