Football League to revise rules that saw Watford field seven international loan players against Crystal Palace. The Football League are planning to outlaw the practice that saw Watford field seven loan players in their Championship match against Crystal Palace. It is understood the Football League plan to propose placing the same cap on such transfers as currently exist with domestic loans, something which allows teams to name only five loan players on their team sheet (four from the same club). A vote on the matter would be taken at this summerâs AGM. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...onal-loan-players-against-Crystal-Palace.html
My phone won't let me open the link so sorry if this appears in the article, but what you seem to be saying is that a club could have 5 domestic loans.and 5 foreign loans in a matchday squad? So in effect a club could still field 10 loan players on a matchday?
It could be read either way, it's not completely clear, but I assumed that they would just be included in the existing loan limits.
The article is ambiguous and vague - a bit like most football administrators. Whatever has been proposed needs clarifying by a decent journo.
Not if they go up this season. As usual the FA/FL are too slow to close the loop-holes. Remember Leicester some years back - when into admin and were promoted to the PL in the same season? The football authorities closed that loop-hole and introduced the 10pt penalty but only AFTER a club had taken advantage. Lets have a bit more Prometheus and less Epimetheus (that's the Greek Gods of forethought and afterthought if you didn't know)
There are so many things that could be prevented with a little bit of semi intelligent foresight. And it's not just football either, seems the world is happy to wait for a problem then solve it rather than engage brains and stop obvious flaws in the first place.
I really hope Watford stay down and this rule comes in next season meaning they have had no benefit from their strategy. I can't blame Watford for exploiting a huge loophole in the rules, but what they've done this season has given them such an unfair advantage that it's tantamount to cheating, and their owners (who have tried to fast-track promotion) deserve to be left with the financial burden of a squad that will need to be re-built from scratch.
...... and SO they bloody well should. Its gone far too far already even before Watford this season. All the FL have to do is say that only 4 loans can be on the pitch at anyone time. It does not stop clubs loading up on loans just how many can be involved at any given time of a match. imo Reading the article,, If this does get changed by the FL after the summer vote by all FL clubs then basically what it means is that the clubs can only have "5" loans in there matchday squads regardless of where the loans come from. I prefer just 4 as i posted above. But at least its an improvement.
I believe Watford have deals in place to buy Vydra, Geijo and Forrestieri if they want to. So that sorts that out.
