The government appears to be starting to get tough over the FA's failure to make reforms in how the game is run in England. Prominent is the criticism that the Premier League has too much influence over the FA. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/21238173 http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/oct/12/fa-football-association-months-reform
One question which occurs to me is this: Why didn't 'Financial Fair Play' happen to the Premier League first? One possible outcome would be a cascade of released players, which could well have had a great effect on the Championship.
The govt is toothless though. Under current FIFA rules, if a govt interferes in the running of football, there can be sanctions against the country. I seem to remember Poland and Iraq's governments trying to clean up their leagues and.both were threatened with having their national sides banned from international competition.
I don't think FIFA are likely to get involved in the UK government trying to put things in place to stop clubs becoming insolvent, different countries already have different rules on tax matters and local accounting rules. Their rules on government intervention are more geared towards politicians appointing staff to national football federations, or interfering with who does, or doesn't play for a national team.
It could be more of a financial overview, more into the owners. 92 insolvencies since 1992, just isn't right!
One of the things spoken about was, at least with Abramovitch you know who the owner is, but with a number of clubs the ownership is pretty murky.
Stan - as a big, big fan of Sir Stanley of Kubrick, I really wanted to like this thread. However, all it has done is annoy the ****ing **** out of me. I see that the government have set a deadline for increased 'diverse representation' at the FA. What is their problem with honkeys, and why must our milk-skinned crackers be replaced with wogs, pakis, chinks and probably ****s and dykes too? You can stick your 'positive discrimination' up your cock-end, Robertson
I'm surprised FIFA haven't already applied these sanctions, their excuse could be that a politician was seen watching a football game in England, they feel this is influence enough, then they can ban anything English.
Utter nonsense. The government need to keep there grubby hands out of football. They have far more important matters to get right first. imo.
