Thread for all things Euro whilst the competition is on. So, will we all, or nearly all, be rejoicing at the end of the Tournament with Southgate's Superstars achieving the second best ever result in England's footballing history or will we all be bemoaning yet another dismal failure given the apparent footballing riches we have available. Will Hamish be dancing in the streets of Auchtermuchty at the end of the Tournament or will he be drowning his sorrows in a bottle of Scotch? Could Mick O'Toon be celebrating his brave Irish warriors ......or, wait a moment, forget that....... Who do we all think will win it? Seems to be likely between France, England, Germany or even Portugal? For me I believe France just have too much class than anybody else. Anyway it all starts tonight when Scotland the Brave take on the might of Germany.
France or Germany for me. France because they're the best team. Germany because I hate them and teams I hate always do well. I'm going to put a stake in the ground and say I like Gareth Southgate and think he's the best national manager since Venables. Not that the competition is strong. Not sure how the team will do - the defence is a bit weak for me and the attack is almost too strong: how do you fit good players has been a dilemma since the Gerrard/Lampard days. If he can get them gelling - not an easy job, but Gareth is better at building a team than he is at picking one - then they might, just might, surprise us.
You are quite right. I had an absolute brain fart and meant Venables. Keegan was our manager at the time. Never liked Sven much tho. Honestly I don’t like foreigners managing England.
Worth noting that the only nation ever to win a World Cup or Euros with a foreign manager was Greece in 2004
