I was one until the second half on Saturday. Thought we played nice stuff and deserved at least to be level come half time but second half we were woeful. As poor as we've been since the days of Lawrie McMenemy! (Sorry for using the worst swear word possible on this forum but it had to be said) Why is it going wrong? Every time a team scores with seconds to go till the half time whistle they almost always come out firing on all cylinders? It was like we had a 6 cylinder engine with 5 of the cylinders destroyed and one running at less than 5%! I'm struggling to go tomorrow night and I've never said that - I'd almost rather go trick or treating with my daughter! Let's be honest, the horror show I might see at the Stadium of Light will probably not be as enjoyable as the one with my daughter!! I will still be there! I love the club - until the end of the world I will love the club. Just don't like it at the minute!
I’m still going But I’m not happy like everyone is saying we are poor But so is the other teams We actually looked ok on Saturday but a few bad performers didn’t help We need to all be on our game every match and performe Otherwise we all know what will happen
You won’t go down. I’m certain of that. You’ll flirt with it though and finish lower mid table I reckon.
We don't know how to win games, losing has become too strong a habit. We've got no savvy or gamesmanship when we do go ahead. We're also extremely vulnerable to set pieces. Unless we can get the defence sorted and inject some grit into the side then it's downhill all the way. I know the players have forgotten what it feels like to win because I have.
It's going wrong because the squad needs more investment than it's getting. Just like the last 3 seasons
Well put it this way, Oviado is the only senior defender I want. Sale of Kone and wages saved(even if he only goes for 5m) Should free us enough to sure up the defence a bit. I'd like another CM ideally and would settle for leadbitter to give us a more physical attack option from CM but defence is crying out for investment.
Our attacking players are fine, maybe a big striker would help, but right back and at least one imposing centre back would sort us out for this season imo. This will give Grayson some time to stabilise the ship and push on from there.
And a Keeper too. Do that and they'll sort themselves regardless of manager. Over rated this blaming the manager lark imo, we're not getting turned over, we're dropping points via fine margins thanks to individual mistakes from players who make the same mistakes over and over. The answer is obvious to invest in these weak spots. Ripping up and starting again every time is proven not to work. We'll probably get enough from the sale of Kone to address the defence. Don't see the need for radical changes, small ones in the right areas is the key for me.
You tried to have a go at me after the celtic game for realising this long before you did. Hate to say I told you so but tell you so I most certainly did! This is a tongue in cheek response as my actual emotions for the club died long ago
I’ve never once taken a pre season game as a marker. Never. No point. We played ok against derby and Norwich and until Leeds went ahead I was thinking “this is going to be a great season” as all looked rosy. 30 seconds after we hit the bar our season started falling apart!!!
Aye it didn't look too bad for a while there I must admit but that's the most Sunderland thing about it all!
You know the saddest thing about this comment is that I'm actually laughing and crying inside about it
I know it seems soft saying this but our lack of luck is massive. Football teams who win things (in addition to having better players) get the "luck(good fortune) at crucial times yet we rarely do. Maybe it's also to do with attitude and player confidence but it's regularly been absent here over my lifetime. Our cup run and victory in '73,shows how the team attitude and self belief makes its own luck and success imo
When Man Utd had their glory days I used to think they were lucky but then I realised they got their late goals because they had the belief they were going to win every match and they got more goals because they had more shots. In the same way I used to think we had bad luck and all the refs decisions went against us until I realised that it was actually the case that you only register the unfair decisions and anything favourable like a penalty that never was gets forgotten about immediately. There's no such thing as luck and we're ****e, in conclusion.
Aye. If Man Utd had bad luck it was soon glossed over by the fact that they would still normally win. When a team like us has bad luck it hits us harder and stays in the mind cos struggling teams often rely on luck to nick massive points.
I've been doing a lot of customer service reporting for my NHS organisation recently. Showed up than quite a few of our customers give poor feedback. Yet when you delve into the roots of that, over 98% of the things we report on are successfully completed well within timescales and with glowing reputation for us. Yet when asked in a survey, the first thing that pops into their mind is the 2% of negativity. Same deal here! Remember the bad stuff and none of the good
I agree apart from the bold (the players have no confidence) that's why I ended my post with our '73 cup success - the players had self belief - now whose fault is lack of self belief ? (Lack of) coaches man-management imo. We had more self belief with BSA. May be SG is out of his depth at the moment but I really hope he succeeds starting with a win tonight.
A strong keeper helps stabilise dodgy defences (even ours) but as you say we need new blood there. For now play Beadling alongside JOS and we'd find out if he's good enough imo.
