I realise there was a discussion about the english game in another thread but thought this warrented a new one.

Now I've just been wondering as to why we are the only major country to play the game in the style we do (if not the only country). And I can't help but ask why? Watching Real v Barca last night was truely tiresome, 2 of the biggest and best teams in the world and the only thing to get excited about was a 5 second flash of skill and goal by Messi and aload of bickering.

I realise foreign football always seems to take the same kind of approach, in the fact that 1 if not both teams will always be sitting back defending, and you rarely see the exciting fast paced, end to end counter attacking play like you do here. And the main turning points of a game often turn out to be a dive or something of the sort.

So howcome we're the only country that seems bothered about actually entertaining the crowd? I know footballs turning into a business, but at the bottom line it's still a sport, meant for entertainment, so why do foreign teams take that element out of it? Are we the only country in the world to play the high tempo style? Is it because the English are all about winning and excitement, and foreigners are more relaxed and patient? Are we more bothered about what we see on the pitch than what we see when we look at the league table? And which style is the most succesful?

I can't decide what makes us so different to the rest of the world.

temperature has something to do with it. in some countrys its too hot and they need to save some energy for a run now and then. in some its too cold and tbey have to save energy or freeze to death. then theres also national characteristics. the germs spend all the time trying to recall the details of the plans. the italians are torn between going towards the other teams goal and wanting to retreat. and so it goes.

I'd say football in Scandanavia and Holland is pretty much the same as here.
