I'm glad that this 'European' tour is over cos now Sven can get back to sorting the striker situation out. He'll be back with gusto tomorrow and want to get his options sorted once and for all.... hopefully :emoticon-0107-sweat

By Friday i hope that Sven will be :emoticon-0150-hands on a deal between either Maynard or The Yak, but hopefully and i know i'm being really greedy both :smiley-finger007:

    In Sven We Trust :emoticon-0115-inlov

Any indication as to how we performed against Valencia, despite losing 1-0?

Valencia had a lot of the ball as you would expect. We defended well - very impressed with Mills. Peltier and Konchesky did well, as did Matt Oakley when he came on as right back. Schlupp was simply overawed by the opposition. Wellens was fouled repeatedly. Vassell looked dangerous but had little support, and Gally seems to have picked up his form where he left off. It was a good battling performance - one to be proud of. Steve Howard could have equalised in the dying minutes when he beat the keeper to the ball but lobbed it wide.

Yeh the performance was quite pleasing tbf, we deended well and tried to knock the ball around, just lacked the cutting edge.

Yet more evidence that we need a striker though, I hope for either Maynard or Yakubu, preferably Maynard - but it won't be both.

I'd also like a winger still.

in the main it was a good rearguard action against a very skillfull 22
we didnt look like scoring apart from set pieces though both wellens and howard went close
the main thing was that they ran and ran for 90 mins so fitness wise we are much better than last seasons start

We wont have to play against team likes Valencia again any time soon, except Madrid of course. So it just shows how good the team is at the minute that we still manage to compete with them and Kasper Schmeichel only had about 2 saves to make and not forgetting Yuki clearing one off the line

Yes they were better than us - That because they are better than us, by some way - Spanish football really is the new black - That said at times I thought we competed very well and gave a good account of ourselves

In Spain teams keep the ball alot better. Over here the best team at keeping the ball is Arsenal and when they played Barcelona they didnt touch the ball all game, so it just shows the difference in class the spanish league to the english league. But as an all round league the premiership is better then la liga.

We wil have more of the ball when we play in the championship and even yesterday we created a few half chances considering how much of the ball we had

There´s still 6 weeks or so to go before the end of the TW, which is 31st Aug, so relax. SGE will get in the players he feels we still need which are, in my opinion, a 20 plus goal a season man & a left mid. I´m more interested in who we´re going to get rid of because our squad is abit large shall we say.

I think Kermorgant, N'Guessan, Moreno will leave with players like Schlupp and Moussa going out on loan again. With the 5 subs now we dont need as many players in the squad so people like Schlupp will be best of going out on loan

Got to be honest I'd built Schlupp up in my mind as the next Joachim - A raw, ready, destroyer who should be unleashed on the poor unsuspecting defences of the Championship and that Sven was simply overlooking him because he's from the youth set-up - Well I was wrong, there's something there that might develop, but he sure as hell isn't ready for 1st team action just yet

That's only the second time I've seen Schlupp play, the first time was in the JPT Final. He was dangerous in that game and hit the post. He most likely isn't ready to play a massive part, but I think he'll play some part this season. I don't want to write him off after a game against Valencia.

And I've got a sneaky suspicion Sven will keep Kermorgant. Has Lamey gone yet?

Im not writing off Schlupp I think he has got a role to play but I think we should loan him out until Christmas and then have him for the 2nd half of the season, that why he will of got some games and hopefully scored some goals

    <ok>

Kasper made a couple of good saves, Bamba sold himself too easily for the goal and Yuki's save was heroic!
