Remember those days of recent yore where we spent most of our 606 lives complaining about everything and anything that was Bristol City? Then a man called Steve Cotterill came in to our lives and, despite much criticism from many, turned what seemed to be a hopeless situation in to one of sanity and hope which started to soothe the doubters and put things back in perspective. The critics started to temper their thoughts and when you can remember what we had to endure during some dark times we knew the doubters would take time to reverse their course. As the season progressed and things took shape we started to see what might be happening down in BS3, and despite our hunger for success some thinking time was needed to assess whether what was happening in front of our eyes was real or were the wheels going to come off some time soon. We supporters, as you will no doubt remember, had been made promises before and we know what happened with those dreams. I could waffle on for ever about my personal reflections on the season but they don't count for much other than I am a diehard Bristol City fan and I will be for life. The people who help pay the bills such as those who stand out in the rain week in and week out are the ones who will get the most out of what happened during the transformation down at Ashton Gate. Today must have been a wonderful day for you all (8 goals?) and I tip my hat to you for all your patience and dedication. My season high was unexpectedly being at Wembley to see my team win a trophy and that was achieved with the help of cidered, which just goes to prove how this site has many good people on board. All in all one of the most enjoyable and successful seasons I can remember in quite some years and I truly believe that it is the door to many other successes in the future. The future of Bristol City is on the rise and my vote of thanks has to go to the manager and the diligent way he went about his business and started the rebuild of the team safe in the knowledge that he was doing it the right way. The players have done us and themselves proud and the young talent we have brought in to the fold can be a strong base on which to build the team for the challenges ahead next season. Enjoy your summer (how can you not?) and climb aboard the good ship Bristol City again in August. Hope to see you all then EH! Thanks Steve(s).
I was sat here, having my morning brekky tea and just grinning as the goals flew in. Must have been wonderful to be at The Gate today. I concur with everything Mike has said. It's never been an easy ride supporting your home town team when all your mates are glory hunters but days like these will surpass anything they could feel as it's just so much sweeter. Wish my Dad was still alive to have witnessed today but he was there in spirit as well as body (his ashes are buried behind the Atyeo goal). Hope you all enjoy the parade tomorrow.
At 2-2 the Walsall keeper stopped a piledriver from all of three yards and I said to my friends that next season, City will need to be much more clinical in front of goal. Well, you can all imagine the piss taking for the remainder of the game! The amazing thing was that Walsall were not by a long way, the worst team to visit us this season. And they have two or three very good players that could easily step up to Championship level. I have now seen EIGHT promotions and have never experienced a final day of the season like this one. A truly memorable end to a remarkable year.
Makes you wonder what this team can achieve next season really doesn't it With just a couple of new faces we could frighten the Championship to death
Where was you sat yesterday? Someone directly behind me said those words about being more "clinical in front of goal"
Not good enough !!! With a little more effort we could have scored 100 goals and got 100 points. We must do better next season ! LOL !!!!!!!!!
Said yesterday that this season has been the best and most enjoyable ever, and that included 1976 and 1977 when we went up to the Old first Division and then surved the last 4 games magnificently- This year has been exceptional. Just 5 league defeats and 2 cup ones- Absolutely incredible!
And when you look at the defeats.....by all accounts we didn't deserve to lose 1-0 at Crewe. We left ourselves a mountain to climb at Colchester after conceding 3 goals in 20 minutes yet nearly managed it, we were treated unfairly at Swindle where we lost 1-0 and we largely outplayed PNE at home and lost that one 1-0 too. The other defeat was Sheffield United at home and we were chasing the game and got caught for their second and third goals.
Watching the home game with Crewe, I thought that they were one of the worse sides we had played, I said to the guy sitting next to me- How on earth did we ever lose up there?
Makes you wonder. Notts County were one of the worst sides at the Gate this season IMO. I'm glad they went down. Also good to see that Dean Saunders got his just deserts with Crawley.
Oh well, it has finished but not even the most miserable bastard can ever take it away from us. onwards and upwards...
If you was a chairman would you employ Dean Saunders? 2012 takes Doncaster down 2013 takes Wolves down 2014 unemployed 2015 takes Crawley down. His CV must be rigged
