Teams drop out of the Premier with the advantage of having some Premier League money from the previous season and parachute payments at the ready.Seems like a receipe for a quick ticket back to the Premier . So why do the bottom 4 teams , at the moment , have a recent spell in the Premiet...Bolton , Wigan ,Birmingham and Blackpool .My guess is poorly run managment , what else could it be?

overspending to stay there probably, plus the loss of players who had relegation clauses. Swansea hit it quite 'lucky' for their timing into the EPL, it's now become more of a test of true managerial ability, the TV cash is now the biggest income for all but the 'international' teams (man U, liverpool) and so now you can buy players that the 'bigger' teams would normally bid you out of. Monk has surprised me a little, I didn't think he would be up to the task, although next season will be his real test I think, but good to see Swansea up there, with Southampton and West ham with almost 1/3rd of the season gone (as a hammer I'm just happy we're not fighting relegation in November)

Think you may be right Miggins , Derby is a perfect example , brought in a bunch of players in the January window their last season up and never won anothet game .Might have borrowed on their parachute payments , without improvement.

My guess is they overspent in a bid to stay in the Premier League. When when relegated most of the money went on paying the debts. Add to that lots of players leaving and you almost have to start afresh. But plenty of strong teams in the Championship who have been close to promotion for a few seasons. There's also the demoralization factor. It's hard for some to pick themselves up and start again. But all this is to do with clubs being badly run. Many think they can but success and approach the job like fantasy football. Buy some players, assume they'll all play well together and hope for the best.

I think Swansea are a close-knit team and that helps them a lot. Many clubs just have a bunch of individual players but not much of a team. As it's a team sport, the team part is pretty essential. Some clubs still don't get that part.

We are also lucky that Huw is good at selecting great managers.
