Just seen this article about us: http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...amatic-rise-of-southampton-fc-and-their-fans/ Yes, it's American, but it's better researched than a lot of pieces about us in the British press and it's quite flattering actually. Read it, it'll give you a smile, well it did me anyway.
Not bad but a few errors. Such as this paragraph: "That sense of togetherness between the fans and Saints’ players has been growing since the struggles of administration and relegation to League One. Star striker Rickie Lambert, goalkeeper Kelvin Davis, defender Jose Fonte, midfielders Guly Do Prado, Morgan Schneiderlin and captain Adam Lallana have all been on that journey with the fans". Wrong! Lambert, Fonte and Guly were signed after we exited administration.
Had a giggle at this: Saints fan: “My ex-wife said ‘you love Saints more than you love me’ and I said… ‘I love Pompey more than I love you.’”
"Blinking Heck" was one quote attributed in the piece. Haven't heard such language for years! I couldn't help thinking that he must have been interviewing Dick Van Dyke!
That was a particular highlight. I also smiled ruefully at the story of the guy who stood up, shouted "you're **** Guly", then sat down and continued munching on his meat pie. Could that have been one of the contibutors on here?
Oh god, I hope not. Must be said: NBC has done a damned good job promoting the whole of the PL in North America after winning the rights, rather than simply fixating on the known quantities. Coverage is good, and they've hired a tonne of writers for the online side to put out pieces like that.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...e-builds-for-success-the-Southampton-way.html Quite a good read. Apparently Staplewood will make St George's look like a rec when its finished.
I love this sentence from the Telegraph: "It may be a by-product of their ambition, but on the south coast a Swiss chairman and an Argentine manager are delivering the future of the England football team. "
As it was Mike "Jim Steele" O'Callaghan saying that, I guarantee what he actually said was "farrkkking hell mush"
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ricio-Pochettino-chairman-Nicola-Cortese.html Might've missed that article elsewhere, but this is pretty remarkable if true:
There seems to be a lot of positive articles about Saints this morning. In a weird sort of way I kind of liked us being under the radar.
Yes, but don't forget that the press like to big you up for a while, just so they can enjoy knocking you down. I hope that they don't get the chance!
