Trio officially welcomed Published: 01 July, 2014 by Stuart Vose Jones, Gomez and Pantilimon all now Sunderland players. Billy Jones, Jordi Gomez and Costel Pantilimon all officially became Black Cats today having agreed moves to the club. The trio’s deals came into effect on July 1 after their contracts with their previous clubs expired. Defender Jones and Gomez, a midfielder, joined the club in May, with goalkeeper Pantilimon following in mid-June. The new boys will meet their team-mates when the squad returns for pre-season testing this weekend before training gets under way in earnest next week. Jones arrives from West Brom, where he spent the previous three seasons having previously played for Preston and Crewe. Meanwhile, Gomez agreed a switch from Wigan, where he made 162 appearances in five seasons, winning the Latics’ Player of the Year award in 2013-14. Keeper heads to Hillsborough. Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a two-year deal. The 29-year-old made 19 appearances during three seasons on Wearside, including 11 in 2013-14 before his campaign was ended by injury. Having begun his career with Manchester City, Westwood had spells with Carlisle and Coventry before moving to Wearside.

Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has joined Sky Bet League One Bradford City on a season-long youth loan. The 20-year-old stopper heads to Valley Parade, where he could be in line to make his debut in the season opener against Coventry City early next month. Pickford joined the Black Cats at the age of eight, rising through the club’s academy and becoming a key part of the club’s U21 side. The keeper, who signed a new four-year contract earlier this summer, has had loan spells with Darlington, Alfreton Town, Burton Albion and Carlisle United.
Argentine club Newell's Old Boys have confirmed the signing of Sunderland striker Ignacio Scocco. The Argentine, 29, known as "Nacho", arrived on Wearside in January for £3.2m with manager Gus Poyet hoping he could fire the goals to keep his side in the Premier League. Although Sunderland escaped relegation he did not score in eight appearances. A tweet from Newell's read: "First of all, a fan of Newell's...welcome @nachoscocco32!" Scocco is returning for his third spell at the club.

The Dutch international has joined the Black Cats on a four-year deal, for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old gained Champions League experience while with the Blues and has spent the last two seasons on loan with Dutch side Vitesse, where he also played in the UEFA Europa League. Capped twice by his country at senior level so far, he was named in Louis van Gaal’s 30-man provisional squad ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Young midfielder heads to France. Sunderland midfielder El-Hadji Ba has joined French Ligue One side SC Bastia on a season-long loan. The 21-year old Frenchman links up with Claude Makelele’s side and could make his debut for the Blues against Olympique de Marseille in the season opener this weekend. Sunderland AFC has completed the signing Argentinian defender Santiago Vergini on loan. The 26-year old centre-back returns to the Stadium of Light for the season, after a previous loan spell which commenced in January. Vergini returned to Argentina at the end of Sunderlandâs 2013-14 Barclays Premier League season, where he worked with the national side ahead of their FIFA World Cup preparations. The centre-back began his career in Paraguay with Olimpia before playing in Europe with Italian club Verona in 2011. After a spell with Newellâs Old Boys, Vergini joined Estudiantes in 2013. He won his first cap for the Argentina national team in 2012. Speaking about his return, Vergini said: âFirstly I'm very thankful to the club for giving me this opportunity. I am very happy to be here once again. I'm also very happy to see so many recognisable faces. âThe challenge for me is to become part of this team, and offer all I can so we have a good season. The feeling that I've had here at this club has been very good. Itâs a big club.â Vergini becomes Sunderlandâs sixth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Jack Rodwell and Costel Pantilimon from Champions Manchester City, along with Jordi Gomez, Billy Jones and Dutch international Patrick van Aanholt.

Sunderland have signed winger Will Buckley from Brighton and Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old, who has already played more than 200 career games, has penned a three-year deal and is reunited with Gus Poyet at the Stadium of Light. Buckley began his career at Rochdale, making 68 appearances for the Spotland club and scoring 13 goals before joining Championship side Watford in January 2010. His rise continued at Vicarage Road, with another 43 appearances made before Poyet came calling in summer 2011, taking the youngster to Brighton. The winger soon established himself as a regular at the Amex Stadium and made over 100 appearances for the Seagulls, scoring 19 goals.
