How am I “avoiding the rules”, you idiot? I wrapped a scarf around the lower half of my face, thereby covering it, thereby entering into the spirit of the rules even though I think they are completely pointless.

Who was “boasting” about people not social distancing, you left wing nutter? I was merely pointing out the ABSOLUTE FACTS of what I could see just looking out of the office window. We know how much you hate FACTS unless they back up your world view, typical of the morons of the left.

Finally I can applaud the government in making a timely decision.
Very good to act so quickly over the spike in cases in Spain.

zero sympathy for any of the imbeciles who thought that it might be a good idea to jet off on a foreign holiday in the middle of a global pandemic! Can we leave them all there ?

What “second wave”? The first “wave” has not ended and never will end. This is here to stay. Influenza might be considered seasonal but coronavirus is all year round.

Why not start a separate thread where you can post annually about the “second wave”, “third wave”, etc.?

Somebody should change your avatar to some anti-Tory image with a mask on and your subtitle to “I hate Boris”.

Our good planet Earth's immediate future, safety, and well-being, and indeed survival, seem to be in the hands of the following powerful and extremist world leaders. I have not included obvious lackeys, stool pigeons, yes-men, and the like:

    Donald Trump
    Vladimir Putin
    Xi Jinping
    Recep Tayyip Erdoğan
    Jair Bolsonaro
    Hassan Rouhani
    Viktor Orbán
    Aljaksandr Lukaschenka

    ..........................................

    Andrzej Duda?
    Shinzō Abe?
    Imran Khan?
    Narendra Modi?

I feel a lot better now, knowing that our planet is in such good and capable hands. <yikes> :(

    Idiotic response Steveo.

I live in Andalusia which is the size of England. We have had very very few deaths in our part of the world. Why should we be punished when we have been very careful about not letting the virus spread. Blanket ban introduced overnight with no warning. Ridiculous decision from the UK government when they have a higher rate of infection than Spain.
Anyone who recently travelled to Andalusia was going on an extremely safe trip and whilst here would have had to follow far more vigorous restrictions than anything you have seen in the UK. Now they face two weeks off work with no compensation.

Stupid decision, stupid government and a stupid soundbite from you!

If you want my opinion I think the UK government is trying to force its population to spend their holidays at home in the UK and boost the UK economy rather than spend their £'s on the Algarve or the Costa del Sol.

    STOP CRITICISING THE TORIES!!!!!111

As malafets claimed (then ran away) the numbers are all made up to make them look bad. We're just better than everyone at counting, which explains our higher death rates. The fact that 10ks of people have spontaneously died has NOTHING to do with the Tories, it's either Corbyn or socialism's fault.

There is nowhere to run to as the places I would normally spend several months of the year at are not open for flights yet, but wont be long thankfully.
Are we better at counting or are the numbers made up? I never stated either but why bother with the facts when your mind is made up. I said we counted differently and if we used the Spanish method then our deaths would be a lot lower. The Tories who I did not vote for and I neither like or dislike but seem to send a few on here delirious, missed a trick by not being more inventive with the figures if they wanted to.
Can you quote any posts that say the deaths were the fault of Corbyn or sociaism? I wont hold my breath.

Unfortunately Mal posting objectively about the government's handling of the Coronavirus pandemic amounts to defending the Tories. People like 'the life coach' want clear criticism otherwise you are seen as a Tory sympathiser or similar.

It is obvious to most people that many countries around the world are either counting the deaths differently, have a poor system for counting or don't bother counting at all. Italy count the deaths differently, India has a poor system in parts of the country and are struggling to cope and places like Yemen - well you'll be lucky to have someone counting the deaths let alone find a hospital in the country.

As far as we can tell based on reported numbers we have the 2nd highest deaths in the world. You can not say that with any certainty..

Is the UK counting them properly then? Tests done on everyone to determine the cause? NO
There is a huge disparity to the increase in deaths in the UK this year and the number attributed to Covid19 but of course the UK must be counting correctly because its the UK.

I find it really odd the huge discrepancy. Do you think its down to that they changed how they were counting deaths half way through so now they're just papering over the excess deaths because it doesn't fall in line with their official figures?

I think you are very close with your assumption.

It makes me laugh though. This whole, we are British so you can trust our numbers nonsense. The UK government lies as often to its population as most other democratic countries on the planet.

He is a WUM, Mal. Quite a few of his recent posts on this thread have started with exclamations about the Tories. He is nearly as bad as Steveo.

Surely the people that have died have everything to do with dying of coronavirus, dying of something else whilst having coronavirus or dying of something totally different because the NHS has been transformed entirely into a coronavirus treatment organisation to the exclusion of all other ailments. I do not believe that coronavirus has any political affiliation, so it does not matter if you voted for Boris, Jezza or none of the above.

One of my colleagues went to Portugal on holiday but travelled via Spain to avoid the quarantine restriction on Portugal flights and now finds that when he flies back from Spain at the end of the week his missus and him can look forward to a fortnight of Costa del Hull lockdown. The blanket restriction is illogical, given that it will also impact people holidaying in the Canary Islands seven hundred miles away.

It's not a case of we are British so we can trust the numbers! I am just making a point that our system of counting is more accurate and reliable than many other countries that people seem to have a real problem accepting because of this obsessive blame Boris ranting.

Countries like Yemen barely have a system of counting Covid deaths. Italy doesnt include care home deaths. India is not accurately counting Covid deaths.

    Those are just 3 examples....
