The truth is City, Cheslea and Utd turn up thinking about winning the prem each year. other clubs just dream of 4th.

city, manager sacked... cheslea manager sacked... its all about winning there.. arsenal just celebrated "winning" 4th. where will they be in 12 months time? trying to "win 4th"

This is why i say 7th is nowhere. I want us to stop thinking top 4 and start thinking like a big club again, no more accpetance of sub par play, players or decisions. Roll on august!

Need to walk before you can run.

You can't go from 8th and 7th - 1st. Small steps, push for 4th, get a foothold back at the top of the table, allow us to buy title winning players and push on from there.

Did Chelsea really go in thinking of the title? Sure they wanted it. But did they believe they could get enough to be believing they were going for it?

That's if you think its realistic for a team with Arsenal's budget to be challenging for the title?

I said something similar last week and was told I have a dreadful attitude<laugh>

Challenging for 1st is what a league is fundamentally about, the CL has ****ed that up and now failure to win is success if you make top 4, anyways, Arsenal should be aiming top three to avoid the qualifier and the ****s in the last game of the season<laugh>

Unfortunately we need top 4 to attract higher quality players to come play for us.

We got lucky with Coutinho and Suarez, but they'll be off very soon if we don't make the CL.

Top 4 is our next goal, not our final goal - that is the difference between us and Arsenal or Spuds.

For either of us to think about winning the league again, we'd need all 3 of the moneybags clubs to have an off season at the same time. How often is that going to happen? For now im happy with top 4

I don't see why money clubs should automatically get top spots because they've got more money than the rest. They've been outplayed multiple times this season alone. Teams are just scared to attack them. Plus, you can get quality players at low prices.

By all means aim for top 4, but do something when you get there. If you fail to use it as a springboard to improve and progress, you might as well not bother.

while moneybags wont automatically win the PL they will almost certainly get CL qualification, they have match winners of individual quality unless they have a meltdown like Chelsea's managerial merrygoround but even then the expensive individual did it again in Drogba to win the darn thing even though they came 5th

I know you can be off the richter but who told you you were mental for having the audacity to want Liverpool to do well????

Realistically we need to get back in the top 4, of course, but why not, why the **** not have th emetnally that we should be in the title challenge? Hopefully we have learned a lot this season on what we can and cannot do, add some quality and who knows? If we add, just for ****s and giggles, gameiro, aubemayeng, and eriksen, what really seperates us from a United who won the league???? BELIEVE. have to. must. it needs to be, etc. If we had a front line of Surez, Sturridge, borini, Gameiro, Aubemayang for example and you compare a like for like with United, it would be similar, except for that one aspect........ the know how, the belief, the will, the fight for that victory. We need to get back.

think we are only a couple of players short of top 4 personally.

getting the quality needed hopefully wont be a problem because of the position we are in.

get rid of the passengers and add some quality and we are def in with a shout of top 4 next season.

players i would get rid of are Downing,Carroll and Shelvey, i know we all like dif players, but for me those 3 are easily replaceable with better quality.

if we can get players like Sterling,Iibe,Suso,Wisdom and Henderson firing, it will certainly be very exciting for us next season.

kinder fixture list at the start would be nice as well lol, get the wining mentality going early hopefully.

what do people think if we get rid of Downing,Carroll and Shelvey.

replace with Eriksen,Benteke and Honda, realistic? rather keep who we have?

We want to win every game, that is challenging for 1st. if we lose games and it looks less likely then 4th should become a target and provide some solace.

At the start of every season going for 1st is always the target. As in, This year is our year until reality sets in<laugh>

I agree with the OP. We should be aiming to finish as high as possible.

We're one of the biggest spenders for each point accumulated over the past few years, which indicates that money isn't that important - however it becomes painfully evident that money that is well spent IS important.

I have no problems with aiming for the title, but I wouldn't be disappointed if we didn't win it because it's simply not realistic yet.

I think we have progressed very well this year - 61 points which is an improvement of 9 points from last season which is material IMO. I think the next 'natural progressive' step would be to improve by another 9-10 points next season and aim for 70 points, which is Top 4 territory. I mentioned before that whilst I think Top 4 is realistic, I would be 'happy' with a much better challenge for it.

To put it into perspective, Brendan's first season is better than Houllier's first season (I think) and Rafa's (of course, Rafa had Champions League as well) but I think Rodgers had a much weaker squad.

I think we're slowly improving especially as a result of the January transfer window as we now have two new match winners in the first XI - Coutinho and Sturridge. For the first half of the season, if Suarez was having an off day then we weren't going to score. Now, if Suarez has an off day, Sturridge can chip in with goals. If Sturridge fails, then Coutinho can contribute. I still feel that we're short on quality in attack - we struggle to break down teams at home (QPR was another example).
