So, with todays revelation of a derby pretty much straight away. Are you guys optimistic, or pessimistic? I'll openly admit, I wish the fixtures were reversed and it was at SJP for the first game. What with opening day atmosphere's etc. Here's to a cracking game.
Its certainly got the fans excited and buzzing. My bloody phone hasnt stopped vibrating and ringing all morning. Lol Derby days are always special and we have a score to settle this season. Happy to have it so early as I think it will have an effect on the rest of the campaign. Just hope both teams have a full squad and all their players in ready to go by then.
The glass has to be half FULL! ... There's no point in thinking otherwise is there?! Should be in for a treat ... can't wait.
remember playing 2 season friendlies within a week of each other back in the 80s but never this early in the season
I'm hopeful, I'm a little dissapointed that we both won't have finished making signing's. Would of preferred to see our strongest final squad's stand toe to toe.
I must it does feel a tad odd having a derby so early. Could have sworn there was a rule where by derbies couldnt be played in the opening games of the season. But, hey it'll be nice to get it out the way. And I can see it having a massive dictation on both teams seasons!
For me it doesn't really matter when the derby games are played as I always go through a plethora of emotions, ranging from out and out fear to bullish bravado. Please God let us beat the devils spawn, and let good triumph over evil...
If Bruce has any sense, he will have Bally drafted in with the lads for the whole week building up to it. With threats of violence to anyone who pulls on the red and white and doesn't show passion for wearing it!
Wish the derby was November first so both teams have had the chance to get some good results together. Hopefully by the return fixture end of March both teams will be in the top8 He's to a cracking game in August, albeit a very nervous, close encounter.
I'd love to see that and also the threat of locking the players in the changing room with a dozen fans if the games gets away from them again
No idea yet, rumors flying around that he isn't the same player. Pardew has assured us he will be ready for Pre season (Ben Arfa and Gosling due back next week) will be able to tell for definate if he joins the squad on the tour of America.
Both lads have had bad injuries and like Frazier Campbell and David Meyler, may never be the same players ever again. I fear for Fraziers coming back to playing top flight football as 2 years is a lifetime out for pro footballers. Arfa will be nervous as a kitten and a derby game is not what you would want on your comeback. Gosling too for a young player has had huge medical issues and I question his ability to playtop flight football.
