Never, even Bristol fans have seen how **** he is, and are begging us to take him back. He's a top league one, relegation zone championship player really. And he is only a decent passer nothing else. We'd be on the counter and he's get the ball and hold it up and the crowd would be shouting just run or pass or do something.
If he's a relegation zone Championship player, Why did Leeds get rid and replace with injury prone Scandinavian has beens?
He didn't fail to impress in the Championship. Throughout his whole time at the club we always played better with him in the team, and when he was at his best, we were. He wasn't at his best when Grayson tried to use him as a holding player, but that's not his fault. It seems to me it started when he left, like Schmeichel.
What qualities did he have which made you think he was a success for us? Central midfield was pathetic last season and he was an integral part of it - he provided very few goals, made no tackles, scored only once, constantly moaned, played the unconstructive square ball the huge majority of the time and generally did no more than I'd expect your average L1/lower Championship 'playmaker' to do. I'd also like to see proof that we played better with him in the team - and even if it's true, it's not necessarily him that was making the difference.
no I hated him while he was at the club and Johnson as well, I enjoyed booing them for their half arsed performances, moaning ways and the fact they always managed to f*ck up our attacks like Johnson by booting into row z every 20 or 30 times before actually scoring. He couldn't pass well for a centre mid, couldn't tackle, couldn't cross. Just boot the ball powerfully and if were lucky on target. I honestly think Paul Lambert watch Leeds vs Arsenal and thought because of that goal Johnson must be amazing. Kilkenny was even worse, he had no special attributes like Johnson and was average-poor most of the time, holding up and eventually wasting every counter attack. I honestly don't think they'd get into this years Leeds' centre mid, Clayton has been a breakthrough, Howson was our best centre mid scoring what 11 goals from centre mid and that's all we need in centre mid, if they get injured we have Brown and Thompson to back us up (always nice to bring youth through the academy). Johnson and Killkenny would sit on the bench if they were here. I was shocked when he signed for Norwich and before that I laughed at West Brom mistake in putting in an inquiry, he ain't premier league quality, Neil isn't even mid to top championship.
Just donated another bucketload of points to Clivetime. Come on people, donate! Link here to how you can do it. Clivey's 32nd in the experience rankings now, just one place behind the site admin and about to break into the first page - the Premier League - of the XP rankings table. Let's get this guy to number one!
Kilkenny was ****. Anyone could see that. People ramble about his passing as well - he always played sideways, easy passes. Crap goalscoring record, and he had the physique of a fat 10 year old - watching him try to tackle someone was painful. A complete passenger.
He was a hard worker who gave 100%, he was offered a new contract but decided he could do better elsewhere. I imagine given his time again he would sign straight away as I don't think he thought Bristol City was the best he could do. I have nothing against him, plus I am sure he willl play his socks off against us to prove to himself he did the right thing. Sad really.
although he had very little quality apart from sideways passing, weirdly we did seem to do better with him on the pitch. perfect example was reading at home last year. struggled big time 1st half, then killa came on for livermore and we were a different team. i think its his calmness on he ball, yes it slows down our attacking tempo, but the possession he retained took the pressure of a **** defence
In the Evening Post today he said he wasn't offered improved terms and the offer was withdrawn before he could make up his mind.
Killkenny and Johnson were offered contracts that the club thought was acceptable for their performances, I get Johnson wanting to go to Norwich in the Premier League but Killkenny was just a pure money grabbing move knowing Bristol was gullible enough to accept his greedy agent's and his own greedy demands, if he wanted to move because you think you can do better, you go to a team that finishes higher and has a better chance at promotion or is in a higher league like Johnson and beckford, you don't go to a team that finished lower and has a worse chance at promotion (statistically who knows weirder things have happened than Bristol getting promoted to the Prem ) I back Bates and Grayson on Johnson and Killa 100% we gave in to players demanding money despite not been worth it last time under Risdale and look where we ended up. Be patient, Gradel cost us 200k and was a gem, one of our greatest players since the early 2000s, Fernando Torres cost 50m and has been problematic to Chelsea ever since MONEY DOES NOT = SUCCESS, GOOD BUYS NOT NECESSARILY BIG BUYS = SUCCESS.
This isn't a thread about Grayson. And I've already done that for you way back on the Grayson in/out thread if you're that bothered about dredging up old material.
Good scouting (Gradel, Kisnorbo, Clayton, Somma, bringing Howson into first team regular and making him captain, Nunez, McCormack ect) Good tactics (got us into this league and his substitutions are amazing like Howson vs Bristol rovers and other times that slip my memory) Good credentials (promoted with both Blackpool and Leeds despite been only young, he was a player and player-coach at Blackpool before managing them). He's not perfect but I wouldn't pick ANY other manager in the leauge over him. Our fans have sort memories and can't remember what it was like Pre-Grayson the loss to histon, promotion failure after promotion failure, Douglas, Sheehan, Prutton, Rui, Kandol!
