I certainly did. Can't lie. To be honest, I still don't rate him that highly.....his distribution is still dire and puts the team under immediate pressure and teams know this......his shot stopping has always been very good that's a bare minimum for a keeper though isn't it? Lately, he's commanded his box much better so credit to him for that........but he's still a liability with ball in hand or at feet.....and is he one mistake from a meltdown again?
"The stone the builder rejected becomes the chief corner stone" Simon Mignolet: Liverpool goalkeeper continues improvement as Golden Glove rival falters http://www.thisisanfield.com/2015/0...inues-improvement-golden-glove-rival-falters/
You have to give him credit for big kahoonas But credit to the defence too In general he's trying but he's not dominating in the air and his distribution is average short and woeful long My main thing is he runs out to edge of box and never ever releases it. We saw a few times sterling and coutinho looking for it and he then holds it We only do fast breaks when he doesn't get it
Drive me nuts! But like you say, he's kept us in this race.....and the new structure helps with that.....so kudos for that.....but given the choice, I'd replace him with someone better tbh
Ideally I'd like someone who is good at both (realistically, who?) but if it has to be one or the other I prefer someone who keeps the ball out to someone who can accurately return the ball to the centre spot after picking it out of his net.
Shot stopping is a given!! I read recently that Mignolet is the 6th most expensive keeper in football history So the least I'd expect is being good at saving a shot!
Yeah, but it's not as though you either can or you can't- there are degrees of capability, and he's quite high up the ladder in that respect. There are ways for a team to get round having a keeper who can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo, it's not so easy to deal with one who can't make a save. And the price tag is irrelevant, imo, it's down to far more varied factors than a pure assessment of his quality.
He is a very good shot stopper. No doubt about it......but I expect him to be tbh.....that's his day job and he plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world.....it's table stakes!!......His distribution is woeful though and puts us under immediate pressure....not to mention stops us getting on the front foot quickly. He's improved the command of his area to be fair, although this coincides with having an additional CB to protect him and as such his confidence has grown in spades.....don't get me wrong here, he's played as much a part as anyone in our climb up the table.....but if we do have aspirations of winning this league, he shouldn't be our #1 imo.....if we improve by 10% all over the field, we'll be challenging......We need someone with more than just a good save in his bag.....Reina used to get assists.....half of his ability to distribute would be good!! Will be very happy if he proves me very wrong
The name I go to is Hugo loris He can shot stop too but he's shows where a sweeper keeper needs to be and that's right up on the pen spot keeping the centre of goal, him and ball position up the pitch in a line. This makes shortest distance to get to any forward ball and shortest distance back to cut off a long alonso style special He's on his toes not flat footed, 20 years ago the best strikers were the ones who were always reacting not flat footed by being always on their toes and the likes of Neville southall or mark croslie (sp?) could be fat bastards in goal Now keepers are up against lightening fast forwards like aguero etc and so must do the same. It is in fairness a much tougher role week in and week out imo now to di this unseen by most so I think having someone to come in is vital
