He's having a good pre-season, but we look to be/need another CB. It's clear that Adkins holds him as Fonte's partner for this season unless that changes this week, so what do you think of him? Can he cut it in the Championship?
He has made some mistakes but find me a player who hasnt i prefer Martin as a long term option for Saints. on current pre-season form Seaborne gets the nod at the moment. Still an area to strengthen in.
i think seaborne is a good player.. whether he will cut it at this level is yet to be seen.. he is versatile too soo very useful to us
This is a good question mate! Like you say, Dan has had a good pre-season and yesterday he looked solid partnering The Fonte. However it was just a friendly and against Yeovil so I would really like to see another CB come into the building as I feel it's too soon for him to be playing week in week out with Jose. I know it's gone quiet on the Kasper Gorkss Puncheon swap but that would be ideal. And as for Jemal, whats going on there? So yeah, ideally a new CB comes in, Seaborne playing whenever needed/cups and based on yesterdays performance the Jedi used sparingly, past his prime but he is a legend and must add to the positivity of the squad. As I said on another thread, get Martin out on loan will do him the world of good.
Martin desperately needs to go out on loan if he's not to feature regularly for us - one of the local sides (Aldershot/Bournemouth/Wycombe/Oxford) must want him!
You would have though so!! Maybe they should do like a double loan of Martin and Doble to the same team for a season, would have company and surely they would both get into the first team for The Shots/Wycombe/Oxford, even if I was a Cherries fan I wouldn't be disappointed. With this 5 sub rule and us having good squad depth surely it makes sense to get some youngsters out. Although doesn't the loan market stay open for a month longer so there is plenty 'o time left.
Rate, rate rate. Had a great pre-season and is all over Nigel's plans. Even if he adds another CB, he will still be on the door of the first team. Definitely on the bus.
I'm quite happy with the midfield and attack options. Ideally, I would like to see TWO central defenders come in, and both better than Fonte. I think that is what it is going to take to seriously compete in the Championship, otherwise I think we are going to struggle to keep clean sheets.
I agree. Fonte is excellent, but with a quality CB alongside him and another as back up, we have a better chance of keeping it tight.
I can't see the point of slating a player before the season has even started. If NA didn't rate him he would've been shipped out before now. Yes, I think that Centre Defence is an area that we could strengthen, but if no player is signed before the season starts then i'm happy to back the squad as it is.
Agree that if we do sign a central defender they need to be better or equal to Fonte, just as Cork looks like a step up on Hammond, Schneiderlin & Chaplow. Only went to the West Brom match in pre-season, but was impressed that Seabourne did not always go for the long left footed pass and kept the ball well and when he did go long used it to good effect. He was also positive in the tackle and only got caught out of position on a couple of occassions. The worry in these situations is that he doesn't have the pace and agility to recover and can look clumsey which is why I think he is not the most highly regarded player. Agree that Martin should go out on loan with Doble and perhaps Reeves too. Adkins has already expressed that he thinks Doble needs football and Martin falls under the same catergory. All three look like they could do a job in league one and would be snapped up. If Martin puts in a decent shift he will be ready to replace Jaidi.
I'd only slate a player if I thought he wasn't doing his best. If he's not good enough, it's up to the manager to sort out. You can't help not being the best player in the world, you can only give 100%.
Everyone remember Brett Ormerod? Really was a million miles from being a PL player, but we all loved him because he tried his absolute nuts off.
Rubbish, won't cut it in the Champ, didnt impress in league 1 - sign a new CB and have martin on the bench
I think with Seaborne, people struggle to forge their own opinion on him when everyone else around them at the ground are slating him. He's very assured on the ground and wins his fair share of headers, plus his passing is quite pleasing. Pace is the issue really.
