Gotta catch a plane first thing in the morning so thought i would stick it up now

    Newmarket

2:15-My Propeller 6/5 BOG NON RUNNER

Daughter of Holy Roman Emperor and half sister to 6f winner Bandstand.Bred to be sharp and so it has proved smashing a maiden field by 17 Lengths in a very good time last sunday at Pontefract on her 2nd start. This much tougher but she is a filly with a lot of talent and class and will take some stopping here.

    2:45-Cavalryman 4/1 BOG

Couldn't recapture his best form last year but still was placed in good company a few times. Was 4th on seasonal reappearance at Sandown last month and that should have put him spot on for this.If he can recapture his best form here he is head and shoulders above these.

    3:20-Beacon Lodge 7/1 BOG

was lightly raced last year but showed he still retained his ability when winning a listed race at Haydock on seasonal debut and was beated just under 2 lengths the last day in a G3 at Chantilly.

    3:55-Dominant e/w 8/1 BOG WON

A FAMOUSWISE juvenile last year and duly obliged for us on Debut over 7f at Goodwood.Has finieshd 2nd and 5th both starts in 10f handciaps this year but the form of those performances are better than at first glance.Got no cover the last day and ran too freely. This a tougher race than those 2 but i feel he can definitley run into a place here.

    4:30-Burj Nahar 4/1 BOG WON

Looked a very very classy colt when winning at odds on in a extended mile maiden at Nottingam in November 09.Has been off the track since but im prepared to take a chance on his class still being there and him being able to take this first time out.

    Newcastle

    3:05-Montaff 22/1 E/W 2ND

Has been temperamental in the past but but looks a reformed character this year winning over 2m in a handicap at Ripon in April and then finishing 2nd in a G2 at Sandown the last day. This mark looks a bit beyond him but can definitley see him running into the first 4.

    Windsor

    2:25-Macdonald Mor 11/4 BOG

Dansili Colt whose Dam won 4 times at 5f and 6f including a G1.He is a lovely good looking horse who has plenty of scope and showed that he had learned plenty from his debut when finishing 2nd at Goodwood the last day.A reproduction of that run should be good enough to take this

    2:55-Nationalism 3/1 BOG WON

Improved a massive amount when winning a 1m1f handicap at Goodwood in September. Was 4th to Fanunalter in the Diomed at Epsom on seasnal debut and will go very close here with a repeat of that run.

I’m gonna take you on again with the Brian Meehan trained and likely favourite Right To Dream.
Agree with you about My Propeller though.:emoticon-0100-smile

ICON DREAM (NAP) 33/1 e/w- Needs a trip these days as his excellent 5th in the Chester Cup showed. LTO was running over too short, he could not beat Overturn at Chester with that draw and I think he can reverse form here and go close.

    Newmarket

3.55. DOMINANT 8/1- Disappointed me last time out but looking through that race I acttually think the form might work out pretty well, especially since Norse Blues won a decent race at Epsom and we still haven't seen the best of Fulgur. A return to the form of its reappearance would put him bang in the mix. Only had 4 starts and has not finished improving.

    Chester

3.45 CATALYZE 14/1 ew- Most disappointing on two starts so far but undoubtedly has more ability than that, and they were ultra competitive affairs. 3lb claimer means he runs off 80 tomorrow, and you would have to say that looks leneient given the strength of some of its 2 Y O form.

I have to disagree with you all, Overturn will be my NAP and my only bet of the day (except for my evens bet on midday<party>) lol. I am a big fan of the horse and if he IS in front come the last few furlon he wont be pegged back. He just has too much class! Come on Overturn!!:emoticon-0137-clapp

Overturn is an interesting horse I really like him and the way he has been campaigned over the last few seasons. Would be nice to see him do it again

An interesting maiden to start the card at Newmarket, from the newcomers Paladin has to be respected considering the yard landed this race last year and have had a couple of 2yo winners in the last few days. Rockinante is also worth a market check considering he is the choice of Richard Hughes from the two Richard Hannon runners. However I am going to stick with a horse that has had a run and I thought FLYING TRADER shaped with great promise on his debut at Kempton earlier this month. Despite being slow away he quickly made up lost ground and didn’t have the clearest of passages in running and also showed signs of inexperience, he ended up finishing 4th behind a useful winner with the 2nd home that day boosting that form in great style on Wednesday (won by 7 lengths). Fallon is booked again and I am very hopeful of a big run here. The way he stayed on would suggest this extra furlong will be an advantage. Forecast Price 6-1

    2.15 Newmarket

A difficult Listed Fillies race to solve here, on all known form so far Lilly’s Angel sets the standard but she may well be vulnerable to an improving lightly raced filly. My Propeller is likely to prove the most popular choice for punters following her demolition job in a Pontefract maiden on Sunday; however at the current odds of 5-4 she makes no appeal as a bet for me. I will be taking a slight chance on PEARL DIVA who like the favourite is trained by Peter Chapple Hyam; she made her debut at Leicester and was subject to very positive reports before hand with a lot of the experts saying she was thought to be high class by her trainer. The market would suggest she is not in the same league as My Propeller but she was also beaten on her debut and I am hopeful the selection will have improved a lot since her satisfactory Leicester run. The 20-1 available looks decent E.W value in my opinion. Backed at 20-1 E.W (BOG)

    2.45 Newmarket
A listed race in which none of the runners come in to on the back of a win. With several of these horses currently performing below their capabilities it could be a weird race. Verdant is the horse I look at and think could still be improving but I just get the feeling he is ready for a step up in distance now and he could become outpaced here before staying on all too late. The selection is CAVALRYMAN who will walk this if returning to anything like his best form, there was promise in his reappearance in a race that wasn’t run to suit him, he finished one place in front of Afsare that day (had already run this season). If Cavalryman has come on for that effort I think he will be hard to beat here under Barzalona. Backed at 9-2 (BOG)

    3.20 Newmarket
I am really looking forward to this race and I have backed two for the race, both at decent prices. The first one I will put forward is INLER, he has always been held in high regard and although he has not yet shown what was expected I really liked his effort last time out at Haydock when 4th behind The Cheka (Beacon Lodge 5th). Inler had no sort of luck in running and stayed on really nicely in the end to suggest he would have gone very close with a clear run, he is now 5lbs better off with The Cheka and at 12/1 I can see him running a huge race here. My second selection is DEVER DREAM an improving sort last season he hasn’t performed to his capabilities so far this year (unlucky on reappearance and no show in Windsor Forest) I am convinced he is better than that and I am hopeful he will bounce back to form sooner rather than later, with that in mind I will be having a saver on him tomorrow at 14/1 – (Backed Inler and Dever Dream – Both E.W – 12S AND 14S BOG)

    3.55 Newmarket

A very open contest this one and a chance is taking on Jessica Harrington’s filly SIREN’S SONG who had looked a very nice type in her first two starts. She did nothing wrong when a fair 7th in the Oaks last time out in which she still showed signs of inexperience, a drop in class and on a track more likely to suit her I am hopeful she will perform with credit here. Backed at 9-2 (BOG)

Will put up selections from other courses tmz. Best of luck to you all :emoticon-0103-cool:

Me too rainbow and @ 6/1 I think is a huge price for him, even as a E/W shot if you dnt think he will win, (i think he will) but you cant go wrong!!

    Moyenne Corniche 16/1

This is an extremely competitive race to solve but I am going to go for the hugely in form gelding trained by Brian Ellison in the shape of Moyenne Corniche. With a fantastic record of 11 winners from his last 34 runners and on this alone he warrants respect. This well bred 6 year old, despite only winning once in his career, is a very consistent horse and can definitely play a major role at the finish. For the vast majority of his career he has been campaigned at 8f and it wasn’t until he joined the Ellison yard in late 2010 that he was campaigned over the more testing middle distances. This seems to be ideal for the horse as in his 5 starts for the Ellison yard to date he has finished 2nd three times and 3rd twice, although one of the thirds was disqualified. In all 5 runs for his current yard, he has finished 1.28L or less behind the winner and is quite unlucky not to have gotten his nose in front.

The form of his last effort in Hamilton seems to be panning out well with Foxhunt, who finished just behind todays selection, winning subsequently twice, including an impressive 2.25L victory last week at Royal Ascot. With Moyenne Corniche having being campaigned at 1m 6f as his longest distance, his ability to stay the trip is a big doubt. However, Brian Ellison gave an interview on ATR recently stating that if he stayed the trip (which he thought he would) he would have a massive chance.

The ground should be absolutely ideal at Newcastle, which is a huge positive as Moyenne Corniche will be one of only a few that it will be perfect for. Although Overturn has been in my horse tracker for over a year and I backed him in this last year, I think the ground, large weight and perhaps the inexperience of Henry Brooke are putting me off backing him. Not doubting the ability of the jockey, but Overturn was giving a tactically stunning ride from Eddie Ahern LTO and it could prove a difficult task. I am happy with the booking of George Baker, a jockey who I really rate and who has ridden Moyenne Corniche once before.

In Conclusion, I do fancy Moyenne Corniche to run a big race tomorrow. The very strong travelling gelding has been ultra consistent since joining the Ellison yard and should hopefully give us a decent run for our money. Although a very competitive race, I am hoping that he will be able to stay the 2m trip. The draw in stall 7 is fairly decent, and although he has only gotten his head in front one occasion, I hope under the guidance of George Baker he will score for the second time today.

    Johannes 12/1

Once again I am taking on what appears a very open race on paper but Johannes looks extremely well handicapped to go very close today. Richard Fahey’s gelding has not won since last year, but is now 3lb below his last winning mark. Today Johannes returns to what I believe to be an ideal trip in 6f having competed the last twice over 5f. Since October last year, Johannes has run ok but has never reached the standard expected with a best effort of a 0.19L defeat 3rd 9 months ago. LTO Johannes was pretty disappointing despite showing early speed. However, his 2nd last start he finished 3.31L behind Ancient Cross who came out again yesterday to win impressively by 1.75L. There is an 8lb pull between Johannes handicap mark today and Ancient Cross’ winning mark from yesterday so this seems a fairly impressive run.

Champ Paul Hanagan takes the ride so absolutely no complaints in this department. Although this field is a strong, Johannes is very very well handicapped on old form. Although I quite like the look of Ginger Ted and Singeur here too, I really believe that Johannes can win this with a bit in hand if running to top form. The draw and ground conditions should be fine and one of these days Johannes will definitely pop up and win a decent race off a mark like this, and after a short break I don’t see any reason why it can’t be today.

3.05 Newcastle, Harlestone Times, stepping up to two miles for first time today. Looks a stayer and has won on both soft and fast ground, he is the pick. Deauville Flyer is also worth an ew bet big run expected.

3.20 Newmarket, I backed Dever Dream in The Windsor Forest at Ascot after good reports, I’m hoping to get some ew money back here but ground and lack of support are a worry.

Morning, all. Saw this site mentioned on old Fugees so thought I would meander across and have a look. Seems 'quite reasonable' although if it will manage to beat the 'boys in IT' (as every other forum doesn't since the BBC shut) and I will get access at the old coalface I won't know until next week. Some recognisable names have also jumped across from Fugees and the old BBC I see. Lets hope most of my regular readers do the same as well as that would send membership numbers spiralling.

Anyway, nice days racing today on both sides of the water and I can recommend:

Regal Parade (2.00 Newcastle) - Old ’Dandy’ Nicholls’ charge looks well ahead of his opponents in this event and he should oblige here. Is a dual Group 1 winner and appears to have retained all his ability this term which does not bode well for his rivals.

Midday (3.35 Curragh) - what a lovely name for a mare by the way. My regular readers will know that Sir Henry’s Midday is one of my faves and I take her to win her 6th Group 1 prize in the Pretty Polly Stakes (what a lovely name for a race for fillies and mares by the way). Was just run out of it close home in the Coronation Cup and she returns to her best trip of 10 furlongs today.

Admiral of the Red (4.10 Curragh) - I was somewhat disappointed when Mr O’Brien didn’t run this one in last week’s ‘Queen’s Vase’ as I felt the race was made for him however today’s race looks equally as opportune for Admiral of the Red given the impressive performance he put to easily win a 12 furlong maiden at Leopardstown in May. Looked extremely good that day and I think he could, in time, be destined for the ‘top table’.

Questionnaire (4.35 Windsor) - this filly won by half the track at Chepstow on her seasonal bow and despite a rise of 7 pounds she still looks well treated running off just 65 today. A weak race but Questionnaire stands out.

My nap of the day would be Admiral of the Red but I actually like all 4 if I’m being honest, people.

Incidentally, in conclusion, one quick question for our Northern correspondents. Why is today's 'Northumberland Plate' also known as 'Richard Pitman's Derby'??? Never understood why it is.

Morning everybody, hope all are well and welcome to SirBarney. Ref Richard Pitman's Derby, the correct spelling is Richard Pitman's Darby and should be read as "Richard Pitman is Darby" - this all came about after a notorious affair he had with infamous Joan in the 1950s. The press was full of stories about Darby and Joan.

Time is scarce this weekend so I am putting 3 of my own fancies in a yankee with the Richard Fahey nap from his column on Sporting Life:

2.30 Newcastle Johannes (from good old Dicky)
    3.05 Newcastle Activate
    3.35 Curragh Midday
    Irish Derby Carlton House

Best of bally luck to one and all.

    2.00 Newcastle

A trappy opening race at Newcastle for which 8 are set to run. The obvious starting point is REGAL PARADE; he is the class horse in this race and should be tough to beat considering he is unpenalised for his French Group 1 win last season, the race should be run to suit him and ground conditions are ideal. The 5/4 about him early this morning seems a decent enough price in a race like this. I will also be having a crazy E.W saver on WINKER WATSON, I did laugh when I seen him back in training but after watching some of his last runs I am convinced he will benefit from a step back down to sprinting distances. He would go close if returning to his 2yo form and although that seems unlikely now he is a 6yo and has been off for 728 days I am willing to take a chance at 28/1. (BOTH BOG)

    3.05 Newcastle

The plate looks very hard to solve as always today. I will not be backing Overturn but I certainly wouldn’t complain if he was to win it again as I am a big fan of the horse and the way he has been campaigned in recent seasons. My main selection for the race is IVESTISSEMENT, after showing useful form in France he was sent over hurdles for Evan Williams but failed to convince with his jumping and didn’t seem to be enjoying the game at all, back on the flat last time out on his debut for John Gosden he impressed me with his attitude and the way he stayed on over 1m6f to win. The step up in distance should be no problem at all and I can see him running a huge race here. He is currently 10/1. My other selection is the rank outsider CHOCK A BLOCK (E.W), this horse has class and if putting in the best of his form I would be hopeful he will run a big race, he has been out of sorts lately but should appreciate the step up in distance and at 40/1 he is worth taking a chance on. (BOTH BOG)

    4.15 Newcastle

Not a race to get heavily involved with but I will be having a small E.W dabble on BANG TIDY, I thought he shaped with plenty of encouragement on his debut here on Thursday, he showed plenty of early dash suggesting the step down to 5f will be no problem, in a weak race I think he is a little bit overpriced at 14/1 (BOG)

    2YO races -

Chester 2.05 - Red Art - This is a case of backing the best horse despite the draw, and the best horse in the race for me is Red Art. He ran a good race last time out, winning at Windsor in a twelve runner maiden. The horse likes the ground and I think it can overcome the wide draw, even if it is at Chester. 1pt 7/4 BOG

Newcastle 4.15 - Satanic Beat - A horse who went through the ring for a fair amount as a yearling before being pinhooked and doubling in price as a two year old. Half brother to a plethora of winners at various distances including sprints. Yard don't have many two year old runners and the market has overpriced this one. 0.5pt EW 25/1 BOG

Newmarket 2.15 - Lily's Angel - This race was going to revolve around My Propeller but the writing was on the wall when his owner tweeted from Glastonbury!! The horse I was willing to take it on with was Lily's Angel, and I have backed her to win this at 5/1. She showed her wellbeing at Royal Ascot when running a big race to finish fifth behind Samitar in the Albany coming down the ground that I rated as the worst (nearer the far side) and I think that form sets the standard here. 2pt win 5/1 BOG

    Northumberland Plate 25/6/11

    3.05 Newcastle Investissement 9/1 (NAP)

Gelded since leaving Evan Williams and looked the better for it on reappearance. Remains light-raced, unexposed at staying trips and looks well-treated on the evidence of resolute effort at Goodwood. Handles easy ground no problem and handy racing racing style from excellent draw looks a major plus. Holds a G1 entry for the Irish St Leger, so it seems likely he considered well-suited to a stiff test on easy ground.
