What is a par score to post at Chelmsford in view of Essex'x batting power. I'd say something around 400 as I expect Essex to cruise to a comfortable win against perenial losers in any one day competiton, Middlesex.
What is your view Don and Tom about this competion that is going to last, what a month before we get back to the 4 day game? Are the crowds big at this stage? In years past we had the B&H and Nat West running alongside the John Player 40 and the County Championship 3 day game, and I thought cricket was in a healthy state back then.
Superb 100 from Alsop. Played second fiddle while Markram and Vince were hitting it around but has anchored the innings brilliantly. Hope he carries his bat now.
Glamorgan really shot themselves in the foot losing those early wickets. Plus the two run outs caused them to be below par. The way the tail batted convinced me they would be below par no matter how well they finished and I was right. Really excellent spell from Abbott at the start though. It will be forgotten in the wake of Alsop scoring 130 but he deserves credit for the way he came out and bowled aggressively.
So proud of myself!! Astonishingly, Middlesex won!!!! Well done to Hampshire as well!! Mustn't forget Somerset, Chilcs!!!!
Primarily the latter. There are eight 4 day matches between Markram leaving and the t20s starting. That's more than half the season. But we're hoping for it to be a three month contract by all accounts, which ultimately would take us through the bulk of the t20s too. It's quite possible that Markram will then take back over from Rahane after that (SA are free after the WC until October). Of course in theory they could team up together in t20s, but I'm hearing that Chris Morris could be our t20-only overseas player. That should, we shouldn't get our hopes up too high. Getting a NOC, and thus agreement, from the BCCI can be notoriously difficult. They really do seem to have a thing against their players playing domestic cricket outside of India. Although they have softened slightly in the last two years. Very good win today. 350 was probably par on that pitch, with the short boundary. We look better than when we won it last season. But need to sort out our bowling to the tail.
Wow, that must've been some Roses match today, Lancs sneaking a one run win courtesy of a last ball run out.
This is astonishing! Middlesex winning two successive matches in the one-day tournament. Expect normal service to be restored soon.
Normal service resumed again by Middlesex but getting 150+ against the best 50 over side in the country and one of the best one-day sides overall, is no mean feat for Middlesex.
