The radio has been banging on about this all day today and I have just read a bit about League Two to round it off. Well what a shock it all is. I never knew that football was expensive in this Country did you? Suppporters being ripped off left right and centre and it took the good old Beeb to tell us what we've bloody known for years. In the bit about league two on the Beeb football site it goes on about the dearest and cheapest for tickets, pies, tea and replica shirts. Some of the clubs are dearer than the Prem and they wonder why the gates are not so good. Would you pay over £30 a time to watch league 2? Plymouth do not get a mention in any category as either cheapest or dearest. Whilst that may be the case it's still not cheap to watch Argyle and especially if it's parent and one or two off spring. I find it laughable that the Beeb publicise the findings of their investigation as if it's some sort of revelation and they have told us something we could never have worked out for ourselves. I suppose the sad thing is most of us know we are being ripped off, £2.80 for a medium pasty for christ sake, yet we still go and support them. The one thing I don't get in the lower leagues is that there are more players released than you can shake a stick at every season. The laws of supply and demand normallly dictate that the cost of hire would go down and not up. That being the case which I think it may well be, what do the clubs do with the huge charges they make and why the need to charge it in the first place.
They said on Spotlight we were dearer than Bayern and barca.. How do they work that out.. cost a bit to get to eery game from here .. We all know its over priced.. lower the pasty price and more will go.. shame i dont eat such cra p
"don't eat such crap"?????????????? Did you actually say that Joe? It's my favourite gourmet meal for one. The last time I was in Santander (no not the Bank the real place) I looked at the prices at the Stadium out of curiosity. Average price seemed about 40 Euros for the Spanish Prem. That isn't cheap. I do believe Germany is cheap compared to here. I still say we've known this for years and it is hardly something new.
Seemed like another rubbish survey by the BBC- you cant compare prices in different countries without considering the different cost of living/average wages etc. also the season ticket prices weren't entirely accurate as they didn't take into account the various concessions etc. Not entirely sure what the point of the article was to be honest.
Yep i dont eat that sort of food Sensible, only home made with no meat!! Yes its all a rip off.. Bayern is the cheapest by far i think.. the Prem is a rip off in every way.. all teams should charge kids a quid... How can an average working family afford it.. priced out of it for the Big Wigs and their company jollies..
I think that's true notdistant and another truth is most businesses, and that is what football has become rather than a distraction for the masses, will charge what they think they can get away with. That's any business not just football clubs. You only have to look at who is struggling in the food selling stores and who is on the up. People were being squeezed until the pips squeeked so they started to turn to the cheap end of the shopping places like Lidls and Aldi. Iceland were considered cheap at one time and laughed at but are doing very well now. They have even reduced their prices to compare with the other two. Tesco, Sainsbury and the like don't seem to quite get it yet and are being choaked by the other 3. It's why some people turn to Sky and get their football fix there now and never set foot in a ground. They are unlikely to ever go back to personal support. It's a good job there are enough of us daft prats left who still prefer to pay for their fix but we will become less and less in number if they don't do something about the prices.
But supporting Sky and paying their fees is where it all started going wrong......not in my home ever.......you can't walk down the High Street or in the shopping mall without being accosted by a flash Sky salesman and his flash equipment stall.....they don't like to hear you say no thank you......even without Sky there is still too much football on the telly.
You could argue that supporting Supermarkets that sell poor diet food is where things go wrong also but it doesn't stop people doing it. I would not have Sky either but loads and loads would and do. They don't want the match day experience and are quite happy to sit in their own front room with a carry out from the cheap Supermarket eating their microwavable curry on Saturday. If the cost at the ground continues to rise then more and more people will join them. It's the lower leagues that will die because of it not the big boys. Current day footballers in the top leagues can't see further than the end of their own careers with their ever increasing wage demands. Bigger picture doesn't do anything for them. I don't care how short a career is you do not need to earn £250k a week to live a grand life. You could do that on less than half of that.
I read a piece by Robbie Savage today talking about Prem players. He reckons none of them either know or give a fig about the cost of a ticket into a football ground. What a shocking revelation that is.........not. Did anyone think they did know or what a pint of milk costs. The average Politician couldn't tell you what a pint of milk cost either or what it costs to get in anywhere. In fact, wealthy people rarely know any of that either and never have to count the beans before eating some. Not members of the real world and to be fair, with their wealth and income why should they worry about any of it. I doubt I would either. He also argues that it is fair that footballers, along with anyone else who has to negotiate a contract, should be able to get as much money as they possible can out of it. It's hard to argue with that isn't it because in reality we would all do the same if we could. It is an entertainment business and a top film actor/actress can make mega millions out of one movie and do several a year along with other advertising and media stuff. Nobody seems to shout about the money they get for their talent and you don't hear much about the price of a ticket into a cinema. I still think it's obscene to pay somebody that much money personally even if I can see where they are coming from with it. It's up to Clubs to offer less and not cave in because this player or that one might sign for somebody else for a couple more quid. If all of them did it, fat chance I know, then there wouldn't be this clamour to get the most money in the universe as bragging rights.
