After winning the FA Cup and the Champions League, it seems that we have sent other clubs into turmoil! By winning the Fa cup we got King Kenny sacked and by winning the Champions League not only did we then qualify for it next season at Tottenham's expense, we also got their manager the sack! We now have a permanent manager who has the respect of the players and fans and we are transforming the squad into a much better one. A few more transfers in this window and we are set! Happy Days!
Just goes to show how quickly fortune can change in football. Who'd have said 3 months ago that 'arry would be sacked and out of a job and RDM would be permanent Chelsea manager having just won the C.L?? Football...funny old game.
Must say, this looks to be the best prepared we have been for a new season in years. Good signings, popular and successful manager, and a team that's up for anything. All we need is for our owner and Board to chill out, and away we go.
Surely though Levy would have had to have kept him if you got C.L footie; therefore we contributed to the sacking. Have to say, big mistake by Spurs in my view. Harry was doing a solid job and had you playing the best football at the lane in years plus got you 2 top 4 finishes in 3 years.
Destroying you 5-1 in the Cup ended your season. If Harry had lifted Spurs first major trophy since 91 then he would have been unsackable
We did smack you 5-1 at Wembley which didn't go down too well I'm sure. Oh and us winning the Champions League meant you didn't get a place. I think it was a wrong decision by Levy. He has done wonders for your team...
Um.... if you had beaten us in the final you would have done a domestic double... now I reckon your yank owners would have kept 'King' Kenny had you done so hence us beating you got him the sack. But it's OK... you still have history.
Kenny got himself sacked buy spending tens of millions to create the worst Liverpool side in living memory and embarrassing the club on multiple occassions with stupid comments in press conferences. Us winning the final was just the final straw i guess.
He was as good as gone as far back as January (Suarez affair). He was only appointed due to fan pressure.
I'm not sure if you're complimenting my 'put down', whilst insulting me for use of it or just insulting me... Well, idiots like this poster need their delusions of grandeur fixed, if I'm guilty of that then I'm happy enough.
Good article, and I agree Chelsea have come on massively in the last few months.....That said, you winning the FA cup may not have done us any harm at all, but may actually improve us, (Pool.) Things are at least looking very stable for us and I think brendan will do an cracking job in improving us next season.. Liverpool look like hanging onto their stars over the summer and should be a better proposition next season. However, I think you really have put the boot into Tottenham, they have lost their manager and look like losing some stars, their owners also dont seem to be as forward thinking as ours..... Cant say anything yet, but if we improve significantly next season, we will be thanking you for that FA cup loss..(Although we all miss kenny the Man, even if not the best shout for the future as manager.) I think their are some question marks over Di Matteo, but looking at your buys and Torres return to form, i think next year is going to be a massive year for you guys....If I had to put a bet now on Premier League winners 2012-13, my money would be on you guys currently. Romans investing massively, think City are going to have a quieter spell in the transfer market as you guys did mid noughties, Arsenal, will improve, but im not convinced by enough to win it. Man utd will compete as always but dont have the strength in depth of you guys. Tottenham will fall slightly i think....... End of 2013: 1. Chelsea 2. City 3. Man utd 4. Arsenal 5. Liverpool 6. Tottenham i would have liked to put Liverpool top 4, but we dont know enough about how things will pan out yet.......Im not hgoing to wish you guys luck though, as I dont think you will need it..lol
Fair assessment. I think it would take some doing to come from 6th to win the following season (almost every season the winner comes from the top 2 the previous year) but we should improve with a bit of stability and some quality signings. Be interesting to see how all the new managers fare. Liverpool like us can surely only improve on last year's league form. Have Liverpool ever been so consistently average at Anfield as last year??
Not that i can remember in my lifetime. I remember under Rafa in his early days we had a few problems away from home, but we were usually winning 2/3-0 at home. We just seemed to have no fire power last season and Suarez became our only option of attack. I was shouting last season to play Raheem stirling as although young, you need a couple of men to mark him which creates space for Suarez, or Suarez creates space for raheem.) I expect things to be different next season, i dont expect us to turn into barcelona over the summer, but I think the kind of proposition The top teams found us..(A dificult one.) will be the proposition everyone finds us. Not looking forward to playing your fron tline though...lol
I'm not sure that we'll finish top next season. Obviously I hope we do but hope and reality are sometimes two very different things. Whilst we had a great season in the FA and CL cups we were clearly off the pace in the PL. We could go round in circles forever deciding who was to blame but that'll get us nowhere. For next season we have a number of major challenges to overcome and to my mind they are these: 1) To rebuild our solidity at the back. It seems like only yesterday that we were hacked off if we let just the occasional goal in. We were renowned as a solid defensive team. Last season exposed frailties in this area. If we are to get back to where we were we need a much stronger RB and we need Cahill and Luiz to become rock solid. I think that both can and I particularly like Luiz's more disciplined approach of late. Presume RDM is responsible for that ??? 2) We have a massive hole at the front to fill. Drogba has gone and Nico too - let's not forget his contribution. Will Torres step up to the plate? Will a revamped midfield be able to supply Torres and will the midfield score goals esp' as Frank's 20+ a season days are over? 3) I think RDM deserves a chance. To me he did a great short-term job. Is he the man to craft the team over the long-haul? Not sure. Can he deal with the transition as he slowly eases out the old and replaces with the new? Don't know. I hope he does well. A lot going on for me and maybe we will be looking at 2nd/3rd next season and see where we go the season after that. There is no doubt in my mind that City are a major, possibly the major, force in the PL at the moment and they will take some stopping. MUFC can't be written off - at least as long as SAF is at the helm. I can see it being the 3 of us scrapping it out but am not sure that we'll necessarily be top dog in the PL next season.
