We are fast approaching the closing of the transfer window and as we all know we need at least two or three new players in before the window closes , we now need cover due to injuries and we can’t afford to be scratching around at the last minute as we do at times . How many players do other posters think we need ? and in which areas .
We now possibly need centre half cover, cover at left back, that strong box to box midfielder and a centre forward. Oh yeah, same as the past 3 seasons.
The only hint in the Echo today is that we are after a defender can't argue with that defence is important... However it is so very obvious that we need to offload some crap strikers and bring on a couple of players that can score goals, it may help if they can get round the pitch without the help of a mobility scooter. The only way to get promoted is to win football games, the only way to win games is to score goals...simple really, I suppose it is hard to get rid of Wyke, Grigg and Graham but Parky and co need to try harder...
I really don’t like the word COVER We have cover within the ranks We need to buy better and competition for places Other wise these players so called COVER Will become surplus However some times these players bought as. COVER turn out better than what we got Just my opinion though
We have cover, but need an improvement in certain areas, maybe three, in an ideal world we would have two players in every position that could win a game for us but I doubt if any club has this capability in leaague 1. We definitely need an improvement up front, either from the players at the club, or by a wise move in the transfer market, my guess is we will get loanees in, and hope for the best.
I think we could manage in most areas But we do need a striker who can run with the ball and look as though he is attacking the defence
That is why Wyke and Grigg have to at a minimum it frees up some wages. I doubt they will leave, cos it appears the one person who matters when all fans want rid, Parky is content with them
They will not leave as they are not in demand.. A vicious circle, but most other clubs at this level are in the same boat..
I fear you are right... with them as strikers it will be a long grinding season with us the fans hoping for lots of 1-0 wins... Perhaps just as well we cannot go to the SoL, it would probably pizz us all off.
I dont like the word either but it is cover whilst we have injuries and Hume is playing well. I don't think we have anyone who can step up straight away.
a good striker, a manager with a plan B and plan C...pointless having a team that can dominate a 1st half so much (and struggle to score) and be gutless 2nd half...people constantly whine on about the stats, about the passing game but the bottom line is...if you create enough chances you will score enough goals. peter ried was pretty much known as a 'dinosaur' to a lot of fans but i particularly remember a game against reading, same season they beat us 4-0 down there and before the current team had 'clicked'...we danced them off the park, they managed one real attack and scored, result was 4-1 but it was the attempts that day that sticks in my mind...28 attempts at goal (SKP and SNQ up front), these days i can watch a game and see one or two attempts from both teams but plenty of 'nice tappy lappy football'.
Need another left back as we've only got Denver and depending on Arbenit's injury, possibly another centre half. I'd like another stirker but we already have two that don't work and I think we'd need to get rid of at least one of them to free up some wages. Can't see anyone bidding for Wyke or Grigg though so think we might be a bit stuck there.
The enigma that is Aiden McGeady has been told he can leave and not given a squad number , am I right that he therefore does not get added in to our salary budget or am I mistaken, if I am right could we not do the same with other players who are essentially surplus to requirements or deadwood to create space in our squad .
You are right, marra, but the 'surplus to requirements' part is a matter of opinion, and I'm guessing that Parky doesn't consider the same players as we do to be so . . . . or we just can't 'get rid' 'cos of their wage demands
