I was just thinking... do you think a big rivalry has developed between us and United? I know many Chelsea fans who don't really care about United but hate their fans and there are others who simply hate United. Do you think there is a big rivalry here?

For me... I simply dislike the club but in some way admire them (only some)... what Fergie has done there is a fantastic achievement and he has done all too well at the club and I do admit that they do have a decent away support. But their fans are scum... I don't think there are many who would deny that (you do get the occasional one who you can have a good debate with). But I think i have grown and grown to dislike them more and more over the recent years tbh...

On the flip side.. I might as well ask what United fans think of the Chelsea/United clashes and if there is a big rivalry here?

I think any rivalry stems from us both being the best sides for the last 10 years or so but generally I don't mind United compared to some of the other big sides....and Spurs.

The glory hunter brigade are annoying but overall I don't think they are as bitter about our success as Liverpool, Spurs and Arsenal; probably because United have had plenty of their own in that time.

We also raised the bar for English football when Jose came in and I think that made United step up and become a better side for it, especially in Europe where save for 1999 they had been average.

I see it as more of a competitive rivalry as we're both competing against each other for the major trophies most of the time. With that said they are probably the only team I have always wanted to see lose. Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and even 5pu1s I have wanted to win in the past, but all those times it was because they were playing either against each other or United.

I dont really have a big axe to grind about MU, except I find Saffa a bit hard to take most of the time,- the mind games, the obsession with Wrigleys,Fergie time , treatment of refs etc!

    Who speaks the truth?

Yeah, there is. Our rivals are Liverpool and City with a little bit of Leeds.

You aren't on the list, deal with it. Stick to your spiteful little fall out with Liverpool.

Yeah have you seen the amount of times your fans come on our board to have a moan about us. There are some who can't stop talking about us. I couldn't give a shoite about whether you hate us or not but I was looking for a proper answer and you just... well... come up with a pathetic answer and tbh... it's United fans like you that make me dislike your club even more.

    Your board?

So, its you that sets this website up. You that sets the servers to deal with the traffic on the site. Yours?
It's not your ****ing board you bell end.

The only rivalry I can see between United and Chelsea is that, apart from one person, the Chelsea users on this website are utter ****s to a man.

    You're one of the biggest.

Don't see any real rivalry myself except when we're both challenging for the title which last season never happened, never had a problem with United with the exception of SOME of their plastic fans - you know, the ones who will then take the piss out of City and Chelsea fans for glory hunting. This is mainly due to their title rivalry with Arsenal years ago, always wanted them to pip Arsenal to the title.

This is a board meant for discussing all matters Chelsea, is frequented by mostly Chelsea fans, has a Chelsea background designed by Chelsea fans and is moderated by Chelsea fans, as allocated by the site admin (the people who have set up and run this site). So yeah you are on our board. Only a complete moron would think a board titled "Chelsea" isn't about Chelsea but as I explained yesterday it's usually the special kids who choose to support United so no surprise there.

And yet we're so insignificant that you're still here, you're still replying to us and still getting all worked up. The only thing you would know about insignificant is that inside your head and in between your legs.

No rivalry as such. Chelsea are often competing with us for something or other these days so of course seeing them lose is nice but its not like Liverpool, City, Leeds or even Arsenal of a time gone buy.

Its funny how a decent number of their fans are obsessed with United though. I know we are the benchmark these days and the team others aspire to be but some people on this site and further afield are seriously obsessed. Not this internet style obsession people claim exists because you post on some Celtic fans website on a board that happens to be one made for discussion of Chelsea FC but real obsession. The sort where you question whether its their love for Chelsea thats important or their hatred/dislike of United.

Not to worry though, I have seen it before. Its an inferiority complex where supporters of other clubs believe strongly that United get favourable decisions, have the media onside and get the rub of the green. You can only laugh it off really.

So no, there is not a rivalry. Location doesnt help and no real bitterness bar that from a few, no hatred.

Hmmm...this is a powder keg of a thread!

Chelsea and Manchester United have developed a rivalry of sorts since Roman's money elevated Chelsea to title contenders but beyond that there is no real rivalry. I would certainly rather beat Liverpool and City than Chelsea.

Up until recently I didn't really have an opinion on Chelsea. When I was growing up they were just like any other team that wasn't one of our rivals. Since I moved down here in '97 I've obviously encountered more Chelsea fans but there was never any kind of rivalry beyond the usual football banter and in the late 90's they were a very entertaining team to watch. They have always had a core of twattish fans and the hangover from the BNP and Headhunter brigade still pollutes Stamford Bridge. For some reason they are the club of choice of fat, shaven headed, bling obsessed London/Home County neanderthals but all clubs have their cross to bear when it comes to fans. It's odd how a club can attract that element but also the Kings Road crowd who dip in and out of football as it goes in and out of fashion.

I must admit that I find Roman's Chelsea vulgar, probably in the same way that a lot of people probably found the listed, corporate Manchester United vulgar (I was one of them). It will always be put down to sour grapes, which perhaps there is an element of, but I see little real achievement in a club spending hundreds of millions of pounds, way, way beyond their natural means, to win trophies. The odd home grown player coming through the ranks seems to be a non starter at clubs like Chelsea and City where the owners demand instant success. Occasionally there's been talk of a player like McEachran becoming part of the first team set up but invariably they are sent out on loan before being sold. As much as I admire Mourinho as one of life's true winners, I think he also contributed to making Chelsea an unlikeable club with a "****youall" and victim attitude that disseminated across certain members of his squad.

My view of the modern Chelsea fan is also tainted by certain people who I know/do business with. One in particular embodies everything that I see as ugly about the modern game and his views and my views on football couldn't be more different. He believes football is all about business and winning. If you're not winning there's no point in taking part so he understands why players swear their allegiance to a club one minute and then whore themselves to the highest bidder the next. He absolutely can not understand why fans may think that a player who has been shown loyalty by their club might actually want to repay that loyalty by staying put on 100k a week instead of moving for 140k a week. I once asked him what he thought of fans of clubs like Doncaster and Shrewsbury, real fans who watch their teams win **** all every season but continue to go along and support them. He said there was no point in supporting clubs like that and that the clubs themselves were pointless. No doubt United have similar fans.

Anyway, cue the backlash but the OP asked for opinions and he did refer to Manchester United fans as scum so I didn't see the point in sugar coating my views!

You're looking for a proper answer?

The answer is that anyone who announces that all United fans are scum in their opening post is a ****ing halfwit. That same cretin also doesn't see the irony in calling United supporters plastic when he himself is from buckinghamshire and supports Chelsea.

    There's your proper answer, ****wit.

I think that is an interesting point of view tbh! It appears then that you don't consider us as rivals as such but when we play you it's always a big game.

As you talk about the Chelsea fan in the last paragraph... he has completely skewed views. Is he the type that were we in league 1 would leave the club and support another? You may get the impression that all Chelsea fans are like that but they're not. A small percentage are. Then another percentage only recently supported the club due to our success but we obviously do have a large sction who would follow Chelsea all the way down the leagues (myself included). I wouldn't say that all Chelsea fans are like that guy in the last paragraph at all.
