Chelsea will return to Tottenham this weekend with an increased bid of £28m for midfielder Luka Modric. Spurs rejected their London rivals' initial bid of £22m on Wednesday.
    Full story: Footy Bunker

I find this offer again to be very insulting for a player of Modric's obvious talent. They are saying that Modders is the key to unlocking the flop that they spent £50m on in Jan. So if he is the key they surely a bid of around £50m would be the right region. I find this hilarious as a player worth £50m cannot hit the target. Unfortunately I think Torres is going to fade away at the Chavs, he could have been a legend in the PL but now is going become mediocre.
A figure any less than around £40m for Modric is a joke, he has bossed the middle of the park all season and has been the outstanding performer. I hope that Levy sticks to his word and just refuses to sell him this transfer window. If we are not challenging with the top 4 places come Jan then maybe I might understand why he needs to move on. But not to the Chavs, either of the Mancs or the Goons

Never heard of Footy Bunker before. I'd be very surprised if they're breaking true stories before anyone else.

I doubt that anybody is going to pay what I believe would be the sort of figure to make Levy pay attention. Probably in excess of £40mm. £28mm will get the same treatment as the previous bid. What pisses me off, is that this is just a very crude, blatant, way of trying to turn Modrics' head. The sort of classless behaviour you would expect from the Chavs and their Russian Gangster owner.

An offer that is 5 million approx more than Sneijder cost Inter can't be that bad!!

It was only an illustration that no two transfers are the same.

Yes Henderson was around 20 million but Sneijder was about 16-17 million.

Difficult to really say what someone is worth, I guess it comes down to what he is worth to the 2 clubs in question. Perfect case is Carroll. He cost 35 mill as Liverpool were desperate and had 50 mill burning a hole in their pocket. Really he is worth about half that.

Ultimately I think Modric is worth more to Spurs than Chelsea/United would ultimately pay so I'm sure he'll stay...unless he hands in a transfer request which I can't see.

Why would Modric go to Chelski? Fine, he may want to play in the Champions league but he has better choices than Chelski if he does......

The man who wants to buy him has no football knowledge whatsoever. He is the owner who treats the club like a train set. Abramovic is a spoilt little child who has seen something he likes and goes "Want that!". He will then throw cash at it until he gets his way.

So Modric will go to a club with no manager (yet) knowing that it wasn't the manager that wanted to buy him, it was the owner. Where does he fit in to the system? Who is he replacing? Does the new manager even like him? Who in their right mind would want to join that shambles? He'll stay this season and probably go abroad or to United if SFA is still there. Chelsea? Don't make me laugh!

Ensil - this ones actually ok <ok>

100 - ignoring the 'source' of this info for one minute, they fail to take into consideration actual quotes from the player himself.

The latest being 'only if an offer is right for Tottenham'; substantiating the fact that he will only ever be sold for a fee that Daniel Levy accepts as 'fair'.

The journo it appears is not privvy to the same information that most of the fans are from our chairman's 'Open Letter' which echoes the correct media quotes that he will not be sold unless a ridiculous offer comes in!

Say what you like about contracts and their worth - Luka is just a few months into a 6 year deal so his worth will be not only buying out that contract, but added extra cash to 'replace' the talisman of the team.

So with that in mind - Chelsea need to think of a suitable figure, double it, and then **** off and **** off some more <ok>

Shelfside, spot on <ok> Considering the Chavs have just paid £50mm for a statue that couldn't find the goal even if they gave him a map. What does that make someone like Modric - who can actually play a bit, worth???

And another thing, can you really see Luka moving to SB with the rat on the loose...there's no way Luka would risk losing this with JT around...

Read in the papers today that we are going to offer him a higher pay packet. The Independant reckoned he was on "only" £40k a week? A salary that would do me nicely, but very low in PL terms. Anyone know if this is true. I assumed he would be on 60k or so?

My understanding was that his amended contract terms were negotiated so that he was matched to the club's highest earners? Or closely enough, just like with Bale?
