How important to Argyle a good run in the FA Cup would be. Financially alone it would do wonders and help to pay more quickly the monies owing to staff and players. Even more so the money we owe to ex-players, who would have been on Championship wages. The 5th or 6th round would be a tremendous accomplishment for this present squad. In a perfect world a good win on Saturday followed by..........an away draw against a well supported team, beating them in a replay at Home Park. A big fish in round three.......away draw......home win. Ditto round four, five and six........one can but dream. I wonder how far that would go to paying off those we owe wages too. The other thought is who amongst our loan players would not be allowed by their parent club to become cup tied..........I know that Blackpool are OK with that. The Cup is all unaccounted income........and would be extra earnings and so moral boosting for the Club and all who they employ Players and Staff alike. This would help hopefully to kick start are League survival.
It worked wonders for Exeter (sorry!!) A couple of seasons ago, a draw at Old Trafford, ok they lost at home (with vastly increased ticket prices), both games on live on TV! I could well be wrong but I think they cleared over £1 million, which solved a lot of problems for them at the time. Who knows? It's about time the Greens had a rub of the green eh!
Hull are ok with Atkinson playing and I think that Middlesborough will be happy with Gibson playing as well. At the moment they are the only other players (apart from Bignot) who are with us on loan currently (Griffiths and King have returned to respective clubs). A cup run would be good but I feel even if we win on saturday then the next team (who are likely to be our div or above) would probably put us out...Damn I'm being negative - sorry. Positive - right, if we can add a few useful people to the current team (i.e. Goalscoring striker) then there is no reason why we could not get through a couple of rounds.
There are 8 all-non-league ties so if you get a home draw against one of them it would be a half-open door to round three and a possible big pay day
Any sort of cup run for any sort of reason will do for me given our record over the last decade. Financially it would be a boost and there is no doubt about that. Exeter were so so lucky to get the financial killing they got at the time. The way our luck is going what is the chance of history repeating itself for us? Slim and none probably. At the moment I will settle for getting through this round.
