After six straight wins that saw Lankan Rupee catapulted to the top of the world rankings, the big horse returned with much fanfare. But he's struggled. In both his runs this time in, he's been rolled, beaten a short head on both occasions. The latest being in the G1 Moir where Buffering eyeballed him and just nailed him. Tonight one of the strongest fields seen here in some time lined up in the G1 Manikato Stakes at the Valley. It was make or break time for the horse. They took the punt on riding him for dear life from the barrier, risking a massacre at the end. It turned out to be one hell of a race. Bloody hell Cyc. That was some finish. What was the time like? He got the better of Buffering all right this time but that one in orange ran a hell of a race.
I couldn't find the time for the event Ron, but the unlucky one you referred to was the great hope out of Sydney Terravista, winner of 8 from 11. They came to town with all guns blazing, they were going to take down Lankan Rupee. Still some big races to come yet. Trainer said that LR will be all the better once he returns to Flemington, but he's going to run into something pretty special in Chautauqua. Factor in most of these on a wide open track where they'll all have room, and it'll be a war.
