Yesterday in the "Most Detested Club in the UK" thread, Celtic came in for a flogging. I wondered why. It was stated that it was because of fan support for the IRA. It's highly unlikely that the majority of Celtic fans are IRA sympathisers. I have no doubt that there are such supporters, but in all honesty, I believe that they would be in the minority. Are these people Nationalists? Right wing fascists? I suppose they must be. Is it more a reaction to having a powerful neighbour just over the border? A neighbour that has for many a long century, gone out of its to way oppress the Northerners.

<laugh> Not even close Trev. I'm an aussie who follows a real football code, Rugby League, a game played by men. If I have any link to Scottish football, it's to the teams from Dundee, the home of my father. Missed the target again Trev. <laugh>

I asked what a tim was, long ago on 606. The reason I'm asking about Celtic now, is response to posts you and others offered yesterday.

Some gang from yesteryear (timalloys or something) but it's also double entendre because in Scots 'tim' means empty.

Reb, I'm not for a moment saying that the average supporter of Celtic is a fascist. They have been against this type of grubbiness for quite a while now. But the voices of the pro IRA movement of the past, must be questioned. As a philosophic topic, is the support of these hard heads, for the cause, based on fascism and nationalism?

Why would you assume that the cause of National self determination is based on fascism?

Well, the Protestant ethnic cleansing of Rep of Ire since the formation of the free state must surely be brought into question.

Also, the anti-Judiasm shown in RoI during the last centruy must also be brought up.

Then the recent outbursts of racist behaviour at Celtic park during recent visits from Rangers, and the sectarian attacks on Walter Smith.
