I'm not attacking our transfer policy - we have one of the most impressive set ups in Europe, never mind the Premier League...My only worry is that clubs are becoming wise to our dealings...

We have identified top targets (Debuchy, Douglas etc.) we've gone in with low bids and other clubs have been alerted...It looks increasingly likely that we'll miss out on both of those lads and possibly more in the future!

Now, in the past we've been cautious, patient even, waiting until our targets come down in price (Cisse from £15m to £12m to £9m) Cabaye's buy out clause, Marveaux on a free, Santon out of favour...But the longer we leave bringing in players, the more opportunity we give to other clubs to come in with 'better' offers...

    SO

Would you rather we continued with our occasionally stubborn approach, refusing to buy players if they don't fit perfectly with our signing policy OR throw a little more caution to the wind to bring in our top targets before others do?

...So, with regards to the article you're saying stay cautious and forget about the likes of Debuchy and Douglas?

We should throw caution to the wind with selected targets.

The two transfers are totally different though, the Douglas situation is one that does show the clubs transfer policy in action. The Debuchy situation, your basing on one story in the Mirror that seems to be completely fabricated. It still seems likely he could come to Newcastle, but either way nothing has happened yet so we can't comment.

As with the Marriapa situation on January, the club are doing the right thing re: Douglas. He's not brilliant, and why pay over the odds and get messed about over a player who isn't worth the hassle. Unlike Cabaye, who was a quality player with a stupid buy out clause that we exploited, or Cisse, a proven player in a top league with an agreeable representatives arrangement who we got for a knock down price due to the situation his club was in, Douglas is an ok player whose agents seem to think is worth more than he is.

So in short, you have to support the transfer policy, the alternative is ending up like Liverpool, where you have no quality control at all and pay shed loads of cash for tat.

The Debuchy story is fake, so I reckon we'll still get him.

We need to stick with our policy imo. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Spot on! The signing of Cisse was brilliant. Hardly a whisper till the day of the transfer, then signed in the afternoon. Transfer policy is excellent atm.

It's never the players we've been linked with remember last year when we were getting linked with Pieters and Cissokho yet ended up signing Santon.

Good question. To be honest, I'd rather we stick to what we're doing well. OK, so we might lose out on one or two signings, but most teams do. If we start compromising and paying over the odds, or offering players higher wages / agents more fees, etc then it will disrupt the whole set up.

What the club is building is a base of quality players who WANT to be at the club - not because they will earn more money than at other clubs, or indeed because they might ge more silverware, but beause they WANT to be part of Newcastle United.

I'd rather we lose out on a few prima donas who want to be at 'bigger' clubs, or crave champions league football, just because we've helped alert those teams to these players, than to see the club lose it's heart & soul.

We're not big spenders any more and don't want those kind of players. So we need to be smart with our transfer dealings. For the club ethos to work, we have to stick to the philiosophy. We'll lose out on some, but bag the 'right' ones for the club.

    In Carr we trust.

    Just my view.
