The Carling Cup is changing to The Capital One cup. They have signed a new 4 year sponsorship deal. The first draw will take place on 14th June. Tinpot Cup......
Oh sure Gawge, absolutely its a pointless, tinpot mean nowt cup, unless of course, we have a decent run in it!
It's the **** up that no one is arsed about. In fact it's that **** we couldn't wait to be out of it and let Macclesfield beat us
Don't see why, it's a league cup, winning it gets you into Europe and gets you more money, why shouldn't teams try to win it. It's only **** to those who don't win it. Some clubs like to play their reserves against the lower teams to test them against real opposition. Truth is it just showed how **** our reserves actually are if they lost to Macclesfield.
The Carling Cup really should be of huge interest to any time outside the top 5 or 6 in the PL, considering a place is Europe and a financial boost is on the cards.
Hardly a Tinpot Cup when the winner gets a place in Europa League is it. But here we go again a new name. But is it a name with any Credit i ask ? League Cup life has been a varied one 1960-1982 No sponsor. Just called the Football League Cup 1982-1986 Dairy Crest Known as the Milk CUP 1986-1990 Littlewoods(retailer) Known as the Littlewoods Challenge Cup 1990-1992 Rumbelows(retailer) Known as the Rumbelows Cup 1992-1998 Coca Cola(fizzy drink) Known as the Coca-Cola Cup 1998-2003 Worthingtons(brewer) Known as the Worthington Cup 2003-2012 Molson Coors(brewer) Known as the Carling Cup 2012-2016?? Capital One(credit) Now known as the Capital One Cup NB. Hull City are one of the top seeded clubs in rounds one and two next season. I fancy York City away for drinking or Rotherham Utd away as its a new ground.
Ah thanks for the history of the name of that cup Tickler, slightly scarey how long ago it was the Milk Cup which is the only bit I really remembered... I suspect the people like myself calling it a Micky mouse tin cup due to the fact we never do that well in cups, we assume we'll never win it, and when we get knocked out, we're always glad because *thats a crappy cup anyhow, we'd rather concentrate on the league!*. Naturally if we had a good run and got to a final, totally different stance. Yes we are that fickle, duh. Well thats what I tell my non Hull mates!
Wasn't that on a regular basis though? People say this about the FA cup as well, if i remember rightly. I'd love to see City win both. A cup's a cup at the end of the day, and we're hardly blessed with such prestige & cup success.
Well we have a great chance of getting to round 3(when the clubs in europe join in) for starters next season and then who knows.? Look at Cardiff City last season ? They got to the Final and yet Hull City beat them twice in the league and 5-1 on agg. Its a crap shoot especially when many of the PL clubs play weaker sides. Its a trophy that is gaining more impotuss once again though. imo.
The stature is this cup is rising, and has been for the last three or four seasons and has offered better matches than the FA cup across the same period, and also recieves better TV coverage in Sky and BBC* (over ITV and ESPN for FA Cup). Throw in the fact the FA Cup final is being thrown all over the place due to CL Finals at Wembley (last season and next season) and a changed kicked off time (this season). Plus the FA Cup used to stand out by being the only match on that day, but recently has clashed with Premier League games, losing more of its prestige I guess. Regardless of its new name, I think this competition is better than the FA Cup and like the fact it is all done and dusted by February so everybody can focus on the league. *BBC have lost the rights to show one leg of each semi-final and simulcast the final starting next season.
Really? Most people are now acknowledging we need to add almost 10 players to our current squad for the season*, your posts about the Allams and the situation have been pessimistic, and yet you think we should try to stretch ourselves with extra games? *2 keepers, a right back/centre back cover, a left back (maybe Dawson's extension), minimum of 2 wingers as we only have one at the club, a big striker, and an alternate for Koren
Trophies are trophies, you can't call the Carling Cup **** as it's still a prestigious cup, I doubt Cardiff fans were saying it was **** after they just missed out on it
I doubt if Chester breaks his leg in the League Cup 1st Round anybody will be saying "oh well, these things happen, at least he did it in an important game".
**** happens in football, so your saying that all good players need to be wrapped in bubble wrap, in that case we may aswell play all the reserves and youth teams in friendlies
