http://www1.skysports.com/football/...underland-can-still-drag-themselves-to-safety Captain John O'Shea has urged Sunderland to mount another late charge for Premier League safety. Sunderland slipped deeper into relegation trouble after Monday's 2-1 home defeat against West Ham, which kept the club firmly in the drop-zone, with only eight league games remaining. Last season the Black Cats found themselves in a similar position, but managed to pull themselves clear with a string of results, including back-to-back victories over Newcastle and Everton. O'Shea believes the players can repeat this run in the closing weeks, starting with Monday's trip to Tottenham. "Look, we are not going to give in, we are going to give everything that we can possibly give to make sure we stay a Premier League team," said the defender. "We got ourselves into a situation last season where we had to produce some big performances and get some big wins, and we were able to do it. "We hope we are able to do it this time too, it's as simple as that." With only a handful of games left, O'Shea is aware that Sunderland must go for the jugular against Spurs. But he insists the club's desperation for points should not force them to adopt a reckless attacking approach on the pitch. "Look, it's a combination. We want to go forward now, as in we want to get that win from somewhere, and obviously you are giving yourselves a greater chance if you are getting a clean sheet," said O'Shea. "But ultimately if we don't score, draws are not going to be enough for us. We need wins, so it's that fine balance. "Yes, we want a clean sheet, but we need the goals as well. As you do, you have to improve and look at yourself and take things on board, that you need to be doing things better. "But ultimately, it's about sticking together and somehow getting that win from somewhere. Obviously the clean sheet will help it, but ultimately it will be the goals that get you the three points." He cost us the West Ham game being afraid of Carroll! has made multiple errors throughout this season that makes his experience look a joke... Can't believe he would even dare come out with this
Complete liability to the team... I admit that as CB's go we don't exactly have the cream of the crop...but surely Roberge/Diakhite/Vergini is better than him Thinks he is far better than he actually is
Unity is strength, and if we are going to have any hope of surviving we need to stick together..sadly that has not been the case all season..
Howard Webb had just as big a hand in that loss as O'Shea. He also had just as Basra game. Unfortunately we're not allowed to substitute him
I agree he's poor but I don't blame him for the Carroll goal and even less the defeat on Monday. That goal was almost impossible to defend IMO he's an incredible header of the ball and the cross was perfect
I do, He lost his man by switching off, yet again, He gave the the bigest most dangerous threat on the pitch a free header. If he'd stuck with him and jumped with him and lost the header fair and square then I wouldn't blame him but he didn't. A shambles imo.
this I admit Carroll is an accomplished header of the ball, however if challenged he surely would of had to work much harder to get to the ball as well as get the header on target
Every goal you see, defenders could've done something to stop it. I'm just saying this was a good goal and I don't agree JOS was particularly culpable. There have been several goals this season where he could be blamed though! Lads, we're not going down because of our centre halves.
Carroll is unplayable attacking the six yard area as he did on Monday night. O'shea has made plenty of mistakes however on this occasion he is blameless. Manonne should have done better really.
I think in general, Wes and JOS have been a relative strength of our side this season, rather than a weakness. Wes is the better player by far but I think the partnership has been quite good for a team of our level. The lack of goals and creation of chances is where the problem clearly lies.
Look, there's no way he should have lost that header. Half arsed it is imo. please log in to view this image
He doesn't seem to commit to it enough for me, flat footed, oblivious to his man and like you say, no spring in his leap. Weak player.
John O'Shea is absolute ****e and I believe he represents all that is wrong on and off the pitch. He does not give a ****. He has got a large part to play in why for the first time in years I am not renewing my season ticket, and the only time in my life that I am not renewing because of a forcing factor like living out of the country. I just want him to shut up and play football. I'd take him round the back of the academy and put him down. Dear John, You can talk to the press again when you are not a liability, until then you just piss me off with your post defeat revelations. You sound like a ****ing hypocrite and it is embarrassing for yourself and the club. John, you're John O'Shea, the over the hill, slow, mentally redundant footballer who came to Sunderland to be put out to pasture on a fat contract (thanks Bruce, you twat), you're not ****ing Plato. And another thing John, stop driving around ****ing Cleadon in your black Range Rover on the phone. You look like a bell end who doesn't give a ****................oh wait.
