The Bunbury Cup, is a flat handicap horse race which is open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run on the July Course at Newmarket over a distance of 7 furlongs. The event was originally named in honour of Sir Charles Bunbury (1740â1821), who was the Senior Steward of the Jockey Club, Bunbury introduced both the 1,000 and the 2,000 Guineas to Newmarket. In 2010 an online casino, 32Red, announced a four year sponsorship of the race, which was re-titled the 32Red Trophy, however, this year it will be given back its rightful title albeit the 32Red Bunbury Cup and will be contested on the final day of Newmarket's three-day July Festival meeting. Iâve looked at this race which is the 14:55 Newmarket on Saturday. One that appeals to me at a very nice price is my sweetheart of the racecourse Ruth Carrs mount IMPERIAL DJAY 20/1 who has gradually been stepped up in Class this year and is raised 6lb for beating stablemate DUBAI DYNAMO LTO. In doing so he proved his ability to act on any ground when winning Good to Soft and dealing with the step up to Class 2 and has obviously been aimed at this race. It is unusual for Ruth Carr to send a single runner this far south without it being in with a chance, and this is Mrs Carr's only runner at Newmarket on Saturday. She knows what it takes to get a horse to win at Newmarket, as DUBAI DYNAMO won here back in May 2010 and was her only runner that day. With a large field anticipated, forecast for heavy rain and most bookmakers likely to pay out on 5 places at odds of 20/1 he is a cracking EW bet.
Wayward: 2 that catch the eye early doors for me are Manassas and King of Jazz but i would rather wait until the declarations are confirmed. My main worry with Imperial Djay is the Northern yard going down South against top handicappers mate
Interestingly Manassas is 'blue' on oddschecker with 3/4 of firms. Anyone wishing to back it should take the 12/1 with Corals which can only last for a few hours
Gary agreed with the declarations and the draw; however, being a Northern traveller is not a statistic i would be worried about, the more rain the better. Still a few days to change my mind yet just wanted to get others opinions
I really like Excellent Guest for this, the run at Royal Ascot was brilliant given that he is by Exceed and Excel (who I think is a top of the ground sire) and I think he is overpriced at 14s. George doesn't run them for fun.
