Now I want it to be known that I am one of life' s nice guys, an all round good egg you could say.
Landing in my porch today was a speeding ticket for driving at 36 miles an hour up Rumney Hill it appears.
Now come on I have never been a speed driver, and as a cyclist too, always remain considerate of other people... obviously should have only been doing 30 who knows?
Apart from just accept it, pay the fine and the points...I wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to avoid it folks please?

read thru and see if you can find a bit of help in this lot ........ My fingers are still crossed but I still haven't had the second letter back from the Nice road safety people as yet

If you are only a few mph over the limit you can argue the inaccuracy of the camera (they aren't pin-point accurate). I've also heard of some people just ignoring it and never been chased up.
 
Morning fella, Jack in peace.

First of all, you have 28 days from the date of the letter to send the NIP (Notice of intended prosecution) back.

Firstly, were you the only person in the car? If not, ask for photographic evidence. When recieved, if you cannot clearly see the drivers face, you can go along the route of saying you wern't sure whho was driving at the time of the alleged offence.

Secondly, and this is how I got out of mine (Second offence within the first 2 years of driving, so would have lost my license).

Wait until 25 days is up, and then send the NIP back. When they send you a COFP (Conditional offer of fixed penalty), you leave it again until the 25th day and then write back claiming your vehicle was involved in a RTC, and has been taken so and so for repair (Prefferably a long way away), and your driving license is in the car. They will 9/10 times send you a letter back saying you have a further 7 days to send them your license for the points to be added.

This doesn't always work, but when this happens, their computer system often forgets about these added days, and when the 7 days is over, it doesn't flag up on the machine and you will never hear from them again. This worked for me and I now have a clean license.


Another quick question, did you recieve the letter within 14 WORKING days of the alleged offence?

Make an account, and visit the speeding section. They will ask you to fill out a form regarding the details of the offence, where it was, weather condition etc etc. Post that in the forum and there are alot of people who will help you out further.

MM, that camera going up Rumney Hill is a f'kin joke...(its sometimes pointing at the wall... gotta love the kids around here lol) I'd say nothing.. I live in Rumney and know a few ppl who have been 'caught' on the hill and 'got off' with, just some friendly advice, because of 'technical difficulties'
As a heads up...I've noticed, over the past few weeks, a marked car tucked away opposite the Pottery, just as you come over the bridge from the flyover... plod with his little gun sat waiting...:police:

I had one last year for speeding on the Philog. I think you have 28 days to reply. I waited about 35 days then wrote back saying I was the driver but that as I worked away from home I had only just got the ticket and I was very sorry for the delay and could they forgive me.
They sent me another ticket asking who was the driver which I again ignored for about 5 weeks or so and did the same thing again, asking that this time could they please pass it t osomeone who could make a decision not to go to court pretty please but just let me plead as if it was 28 days.
About 4 weeks later they sent me another ticket asking who was the driver which I did the same thing again.
The foloowing weekend I was in my local and one of the regulars who is a Judge was in and heard me discussing it. He asked me how long this had been going on and when I told him over 6 months he said. "Throw it in the bin, they can't touch you, it is too late." I did and they didn't he was absolutely right.
I may have just been lucky but its worth a try. If the clerks who actually process the papers get an attached letter I don't think they know what to do with it. lol

They have 14 working to get the NIP to you and if they wish to summon you to court, they have six months from the date of the offence to tell you, as was pointed put above.
