    Good Morning Everyone

Could Owls prospect George Hirst be on his way to ER?

Their Chairman has been spilling the beans:-

Our offer to George was declined by the player’s advisors and when we asked them to submit a proposal to us, we found they were requesting the basic salary of an established first team player at our club, plus completely unrealistic bonuses, clauses and add-ons. We therefore had no choice but to decline this proposal, not because of the money, but in the interests of fairness and squad morale.

Although negotiations were proving difficult I did not close the door because that is never my style as chairman. More discussions were held over a period of time and we increased our offer to make this contract by far the most lucrative of its kind in our club’s history.

He went on to say: "We did receive offers from the Premier League and another club nearby in the Championship but these bids on all levels were not in the best interests of our club and were dismissed."

Apparently Leeds enquired about the youngster in August.

Newport County v Leeds Utd - A demolition or potential banana skin?

Good Morning Matt Eric Kev WJ shako etc from a very dark B ardsey.Yes its that time of the year still only 16 days to go then it will get brighter again
If George Hirst is as good as his Dad he will do for me .I remember is Dad making his debut for Barnsley one knew immediately he was special
Newport always brings memories to me of Harold Williams who played for us for years and has recently passed away
Harold played a blinder for Newport in the cup against Leeds who then went and bought him.Is it a banana skin it could well be especially if we put the second string in

Matt I know you will know the answer but how much does one pay for Hirst remember he has not played in the championship to dateI know Leicester offered £2m but that was last summer I believe he has only played a handful of games this season

Evening Matt, 60 Shaks Pat, WJ,07, Ristac and all fellow followers of the true faith..... Not much to say tonight as the cricket isn't as clear cut as I had hoped. What's up with the mid week games at this time of year - shame. I know nothing about this Hirst chap - can he score lots of goals in the championship ?

Morning all, the Wendies can whistle for the cash as far as I'm concerned. They are whoring the kid around and the only Prem team is Leicester who had their bid rejected. We need players who can come in and make an immediate impression, we dont need yet another kid for the U23s, when we already have young Clarke who everyone is saying will be on the first team bus soon.

Newport County should be facing a team with Pennington, Anita, Cibicki, Klich, Grot, BPF, CBJ,

Morning all. Agree with Doc above, proven players are whats now required. As for Newport, or the FA cup in general, sadly does anyone give a toss about that competition anymore. Semi finalists will be made up from the top six pl clubs anyway unless a fluke draw pits some of them against each other in earlier rounds. Element of surprise that made the fa cup what it was back in my day is sadly gone. I used to look forward to the third round so much. TV and greed has ruined that as well

Doc you know yourself these kids maybe alright on paper but do they come good
I can see where you are coming from but if George is half as good as his Dad we must sign him
Look what happened to Mowatt he had the world at is feet now he can't get in Oxfords team
I also agree we should give those you name a game but I am not sold on Grot I am sold on Nessie though

All I can say is that he is a far better prospect than Ashley Fletcher and Boro paid £8m for him I ask you whatever possesed Monk to fork that out when Fletcher who played once last season was bought for £1.5m

60 I'll go with that just think we need a reliable championship goal scorer if we are to get a new striker otherwise we have several unproven guys already ?

If Hurst was good enough to get in the wendies and score goals, I would say get him simply because we need a striker who will score goals now. His appearances for wendies isnt great but I know they have a lot of strikers. For me hes one for the future as he wont get a regular start with us this season. Loved his dad and thought he deserved a lot more caps than he got. I met his dad some years ago because a mate was the scout for the Blades (He lost that job when Warnock went in)

Agree about Mowatt but Dawson was also going to be brilliant before that. He had a great first season with the first tea, but got injured and was garbage after that. Mowatt came in to take Dawsons place and we all thought we had gold, especially when Dawson was fit again ......

We will have to spend serious money if we are to land a proper striker. We made £18m for selling a proper striker and havent used any of it yet.

We have a couple of strikers out on loan who are scoring goals. Antonnson has scored 8 in 14, we also have this new kid from York who Tommy almost put straight into the starting line up. Clarke I think his name is. Old addage says if your good enough your old enough. There are 17, 18 & 19 year olds playing in the prem, so we need to be realistic, if we havent got anyone good enough at a young age to start in the Championship they must be slow to mature (For the future) or not good enough?

Do you still see David I wonder if he remembers bringing crates of beer into the players lounge after his debut and I spoke with him saying it was the best debut I had seen since John Charles made his and that if he kept his head right he would play for England
A couple of years later I was with Souness at his apartment in Mallorca and I suggested as he had just been made player manager of Rangers that he could buy David for 200k .He didn't listen and soon Wilko bought him for 200k for Wednesday .Unfortunately David got a lot of injuries other wise he would have had many caps

I was just thinking, surely were not pinning our hopes on a young lad who cant get a game for a team thats four places behind us in the Championship. Next thing, well be getting excited at some link with Morisson from wallyworld <doh>
Whats the likelihood of him being as goos as his dad. We could probably name the offsprings that have been that on one hand
