Good Morning Everyone, A rare win away from home saw McDermott's prospects of staying in a job improve, and a 75% win ratio under the leadership of Cellino. Goals from Smith, Pugh and an own goal means that we have now done the double over two clubs this season, the other being Yeovil. Is it too little, too late? Are McDermott's cards marked? Benito Carbone has join the youth ranks Management team. No idea what impact this will have on Redfearn or Naylor? Cellino will not even pay the ex Sheffield Wednesday man for the first six months whilst the infrastructure gets rebuilt. “We are not a rich club,” Cellino said. “I have money but this club, it loses money. It’s like an ex-rich man but instead of eating cheese, it still eats caviar. “When I spoke to Benito, we didn’t worry about money. I’ll pay what it costs for him to live with me here and in six months, if we’re a rich club again, then we talk money. It doesn’t matter, it’s not a problem.” Cellino gave no indication of what impact Carbone’s appointment would have on Redfearn or other prominent members of United’s academy staff. “Benito knows English football,” Cellino said. “He wants to be a coach in England so he came to me and we spoke about him coming here, coaching the Under-21s. I have known him since he was a boy. “The academy at Leeds, it costs us £2million a year and we don’t grow any players or not enough. It’s not giving us enough, or anything. Benito will help me to rebuild the academy, to make it good, to make it better.” United’s academy has a healthy reputation and was recently awarded category two status under the newly-implemented Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).
Morning Elland and all. Cellino is right about the academy. It's not producing is it. Poleon, Byram, lees. With the exception of Byram the others will never play at a higher level than at present. Change needed clearly throughout the club, far too many earning far too much for doing very little. I normally wouldn't want Chelsea to win but really enjoyed their master class over the ever whinging pool. I dislike that lot as much as the scum
OMG, what a horriofic picture. This is Valley Parade in 1985. Poor people please log in to view this image
Academy earned Bates a fortune though didn't it with the likes of Delph, Howson, 2 kids to Chelsea and Luke Garbutt to Everton. We have Poleon and Mowatt and Lees and Byram but we've earned nothing from them yet because the team have gone backwards and only Byram is worth cash right now. We have White as well but he's been nothing but a drain on the club too. So cash spent on buying back TA and then sorting it out again should give us revenue later on and of course players who can come through and save the club money on transfer fees. It'll take time though. McD will be gone in a few weeks I reckon as he's been a huge failure and too much whinging about problems behind the scenes doesn't help when the team he picks and coaches are **** and show no left tit. The players he bought are useless and scared .... Looking forward to a new manager a new direction and some proper football and results next season
Morning Doc, I'm pleased that Cellino is starting with the academy. Club is hemorrhaging money, and Cellino needs to turn the tap off
Morning all... Can't wait for news that Cellino has brought back the ground, not so much because of the obvious benefits it will bring, more so as it will be proof of Cellino walking the walk
Shown all over the world, when I lived in NZ had to do fire fighting course with work and they use that video to show how quick a fire can spread.
One thing that annoys me slightly is why so little tv time is given over to anniversary of the devastating scenes at Valley Parade compared to Hillsborough. Surely the tragic deaths of all football fans deserve the same respect whether they are Bradford, Liverpool, Rangers or whoever
Morning all Yes it is too little too late for BMD, particularly as I don't think we can really celebrate doing the double over a relegated team and another who very well might go down. I'll look forward to doing the double over Cardiff and Norwich next year
Good Morning from a warm but dull Bardsey .I have got to say with BM players he has brought in one has been successful even though he was described by that well known expert LIW has been the worst centre forward that has graced ER yes take a bow MATT SMITH you have done me proud that goal on Saturday was sublime as good as Nat Lofthouse or JC could do I personally think that BM must go at the end of the season I am led top believe that there is a break in his contract so it will not cost too much to get rid of him A manager should be judged on results and aquistions BM you are the weakest link go now!
Morning all. The difference between Valley Parade & Hillsborough is that at VP it was clear that it was an accident waiting to happen - wood, cigarettes or similar - never a great mix. The situation at Hillsborough is that guilt has never been fully established. How did so many extra Liverpool fans end up in the Leppings Lane end? Only three possibilities; WYP forcing too many people into a particular area leaving space for segregation, or forged tickets, or Liverpool fan gate crashing. Whatever happened, the situation wasn't helped by WYP changing their supposedly contemporaneous accounts. Just fuels the suspicion amongst scousers that they couldn't possibly be at fault. Whatever the truth and as someone else has said, no one deserves to go to a football match and not come home. On the Academy, I'm not sure hat Carbone will add or whether his arrival won't just pee off both Naylor and Redfearn. Either way, whatever it takes to get more players from the academy through the development squad and into the first team has got to be a good idea. Great result at the weekend. Watching the highlights suggested that we played a bit more on the floor than we have been doing of late, which is good. Also, nice to see Smith get another goal. Not bad a return for his first full season as a pro. He will only get better. Role on 14/15
Eire are you insinuating that Victimpool is more important that Bradford Benny was a great pro and spent many years over here and especially in Yorkshire. he was over here when our academy was churning out players by the coach load, and some of them were playing in the prem this weekend still. So I hope he's told Cellino about the production line we had and all those players who played for their country's and all the top teams over here Maybe players like Byram, Dawson, Poleon and Mowatt have to prove themselves being good enough in future before they are given huge contracts. Poleon was supposed to be a potentially great player, yet he's older than Berrahino at WBA who is a regular and he also plays under 21. Poleon in that r4espect shows he's nowhere near good enough for Leeds, harsh but true as it demonstrates that he will never be good enough so should be gone. If they are good enough it makes no difference about age as many teams can show. Our club have been so skint for so many years that we clutch at straws and hope these kids make it. Byram has gone backwards and maybe through injury, but Poleon, Mowatt, Lees, White are not good enough so get rid and then Dawson went backwards through injury but is nearly back to his best again and should get a chance next season.
I am not bothered if Naylor goes or not to be honest with you, he isn't proven either http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leeds_United_A.F.C._Reserves_and_Youth_Team some good names on that list Past - John Charles, Terry Cooper, Peter Lorimer, Paul Reaney, Norman Hunter, Jack Charlton, Albert Johanneson, Billy Bremner, Eddie Gray, Gary Speed, John Lukic, David Batty, and Paul Madeley. Current - Sam Byram, Alex Cairns, Chris Dawson, Ross Killock, Tom Lees, Simon Lenighan, Alex Mowatt, Dominic Poleon, Charlie Taylor, Zac Thompson, Lewis Turner, Lewis Walters and Aidan White
Couldn't agree more regarding Liverpool, I'm sick of hearing how they're the neutral's favourite. I'd much rather City or Chelsea winning it
Morning all First day back at work Agree with Leeds60, Matt Smith has handled the step up brilliantly and his goals to games ratio must be pretty decent!
Morning all ... firstly, fcuk Liverpool, fcuking rotten club who are milking a terrible disaster ... I still feel that they are wrong for never holding all those ticketless fans accountable who charged the gates to get in (and yes, police were at fault too) ... it sickens me that as far as Liverpool are concerned the Heysel Disaster, a direct consequence of their hooliganism, isn't even mentioned anymore ... that terrible day had major repercussions as English teams were banned from Europe, and in that time Everton won the title twice but couldn't play in the European Cup ... Liverpool are a disgrace and I lost all respect for them a long time ago ... Carbone may or may not work out, but Cellino has cleverly given himself 6 months to have a look ... as for McD, it seems as if he will be our Coach next season (Cellino doesn't do managers) reading between the lines, Cellino has acknowledged that no manager would have been able to do a job at Leeds under GFH and with all the **** that was going on, and he feels McD was badly let down and lied to ... Cellino has obviously started to get information on McD and the truth of what went on behind the scenes, so let's see what he decides ... a win against Derby may just give McD another season, but one thing's for sure, Cellino will have a big say in who we sign Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Morning All, Agree to with Leeds60 about Smith. He's always been my kind of player. Not many of his type about these days. Goal tally is a bonus for me. I know he's scored 11 so far, but does anyone know the breakdown - i.e. how many scored as a sub & how many scored when he's played from the start (or is it goals/playing time that's the best measure?). Also agree with Boggers re. Hillsborough. In a nutshell, all the other disasters had the root cause established & action taken nationally to avoid a recurrence. Hillsborough does have a root cause (I believe Hillsborough wasn't correctly licensed & the game should never have been played there), but no action taken to avoid a recurrence. The other reason for this wound remaining open is the utterly contemptible police corruption that is slowly being uncovered. Had to laugh when I read that Carbone is working with the U21s for nowt. So much for all the ITK nonsense that's been spouted in the last few days. A lot of 'reliable' sauces proved to be as unreliable as they come. To be taken with a pinch of salt in future.
How is it possible to compare our academy and its players today, after 10 years outside the premiership, 3 years in league one and the rest in the championship, having been pillaged by other clubs and Bates, to previous times??
